when i first started building my own workstations i read more than a few times it was important to get name brand memory.
Ive stuck with crucial memory for all 3 of the DAWs i have built and they have all been rock solid so i dont know.
I would stick with name brand, you might not have problems with non name brand but then again you might. |

Crucial are a reputable company. They do manufacture some pretty decent RAM - I think if you have the money it is best to get better quality RAM - less crashes. |

Beware of cheap RAM... check your motherboard's website.
I've seen websites for some of my old boards that listed off a range of the very 'cheap' memory sticks that they were not compatible with.
And some of the mail order sites that were selling the very cheap RAM said "no return on RAM chips".... hmmmm.

well it is
usually good chips like OCZ or CORSAIR comes with CL2 while cheap memories like samsung comes with CL2.5
it doesn't make much difference if u take CL2.5 OCZ or CL2.5 samsung
u can find "Anything U Want" using the search... |

It's important when you're taking high size RAM like 512mb or 1gb sticks.
at 256mb sticks, usually the value RAM is ok.

Also if you plan to use it in dual channel it better be tested cos otherwise there's a big chance that it will not work..

I think with RAM it's good to go with a reputable brand but that doesn't mean you need to get the top of the range chips from a specific company...
There's actually not a massive difference in price here between generic sticks and let's say Samsung or Kingston...about $15US per 512 stick.
I have 2X512 Samsung 3200(DDR400) always running overclocked on my ASUS A7N8X-DLX AMD 2700+ never had any probs at all

good ram has better error-checking hardware and fail-saving hardware. Its also a good thing to have all ram from the same manufacturer, and even the same type, to have the best performance and least chance for errors. |
