They probably use the services of professional audio engineers for mastering purpose...           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

these days..the artists are also the engineers..
each one make his own production, some even their own mastering.

its not about the quality..theres alot of badly produced house tracks that sells alot more than any trance album..
also, ive heard pop songs that was a major hit without no outstanding production or even bad production..for exsample..moby..this guy dont have supreme production but ppl love his music..

for our topic.. i think it goes the oposite way..these days to hire professional mixer will (most of cases) be expansive and not worth in investment even that it will rise the quaility of the product most of the time..
money talks...

hmmm, I think most record labels do get some sort of engineer to master the album before release. I am not sure what credentials these people have, but i presume they have some knowledge about this stuff.          https://www.djjeto.com

I agree (maybe "not ALL trance labels" would be a little more appropriate )although I highly doubt that mastering is a reason for big selling.
maybe they sell more because the music is better produced
maybe because the music is more mainstream oriented
but because mastering is good?? I don't think so...the tracks are often better produced at first so no real need of huge mastering to get good sound anyway
but it's mostly generalizing as there are house tracks shitty produced and greatly produced trance tracks, always the same story hehe
Happy new year

"some sort of" does not equal the real thing at all ...

Shahar, regarding moby's sound... I don't really agree with you cause he can always say that his sound is unpolished intentionally. Same can easily been said regarding a lot of hip hop productions that try to sound dirty. The best example i think of a mainstream album that had intentionally terrible sound is Amy Winehouse's back in black album. It really sounds like crap. They tried to recreate 60's sound but seriously failed. The music is great but the sound is really bad           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

Most labels hire someone to master tracks for release. This can range from someone with experience and a home studio with some plugins, to an experienced sound engineer with more advanced studio.           Cytopia.org

eventually however good the engineer might be, the final mix will obviously will sound like how the artist wants or the 'sponsor'..etc..
damn!
my point being:with a wierd ass artist ,someone with different tastes ,the engineer will do what he is told..tch tch! sometimes so much talent wasted! :-P
