Isn't the answer to this question obvious?
Here is a simple equation, to help you understand:
$ = time + gear
This equation COULD be circumvented for most kinds of music by substituting gear with imagination, but let's face it: it's hard to make electronic music with a couple of drumsticks and pickle buckets.
That being said, check this guy out:

I agree with Xolvex. And yeah, ofcourse the paper bills are harmless on their own, but that’s not the point. It’s about what money represents, the competitive selfish aspect of the money game, we are in a trap. People screw you and you screw them, directly or indirectly, it’s a race and its hard to get out of the race because everyone is a soldier of the system and as soon as you drop out you are looked down and you suddenly find that you have many obstacles in your way making your life really difficult. That’s why its such a difficult game to escape. This game was taught to us early on in the craddle by our parents, then in school and finally if you play by the rules you can graduate as a succesful mouse of the system who is respected in the world because you make it up in the corporate pyramid structure that defines the world today.
And we are all sellouts, right? At least to some degree. Like in this world we all have to comply with the rules and play the game of money in some way or another. Even though this whole system feels unfair and sometimes downright evil we still play the game directly or indirectly.
And it seems so complicated. The world of finance, the economics and how it’s all woven, it makes you feel powerless. You know maybe I can dedicate my precious life to study finace and economics and I might get to a point where I can understand it all perfectly clear. What do you guys think? Fuck music and go study finance? Maybe then I will have an educated opinion about a subject that I care nothing about? I will have my numbers correctly. Impressive shit for the left brain system. Yeah then I can become president of the land and save the world with my diploma. Once in power I will in front of the world take my black suit off to reveal underneath a completely psychedelic and groovy outfit. Gotcha mutherfuckers! And then I can proceed to save the world. haha
But you know, surely life is worth more than gold, right? And that is the bottom line. I think as a humanity we are stuck in a very low vibration (if you get my drift), we are tuned into a survival state of fear and the system has us all competing against eachother and performing left brain tricks and feeding us little prices as if we were mice in a a lab. Like we have been turned against eachother, against ourselves, and that is the system that seems so normal. There are many ways to justifty it too if that’s what you are looking for.
But friends, please tell me that you can imagine something better for this world. Please tell me you can imagine a world that is not run by money or whatever you want to call all that greed and uncompassionate heartless intentions. Because if you can’t imagine anything better then there is no hope.
You got to bring it people! Don’t shrink and say its not possible. The whole world is waiting for you to awaken into a new dream. A better dream. You are a psychedelic artist, so imagine something far out and awesome.
I want to hear the real music, the real artists. Look guys even you have no gear, no money, and no computer to create music with. I want to feel your vibrations grooving to the higher vibrations of the soul and heart. I prefer that than sounds coming out of a speaeker with no balls, no heart and no soul. I think we are all artists and shamans and all the beautiful things you can imagine in your head are possible oustide in this world. Life is more beautiful than we have been led to believe and I think instead of shrinking to jusifty a heartless system we should stand up for all that is real. For all that feels real. That’s what the psy trance scene was all about! Those are the tunes that rock to the stars!!! Pure intentions, sincere search for all that is good and true. These songs are like poems directly from the heart. Pure vibrations that are reaching for the freedom of all, for the cosmic unity and all that is truly truly good to the bone. Somehow I think we can tell the difference, I don’t know how, you feel it touching your soul. Its an incredible melody that you want to play on forever.
Just reach out into that space and breathe some of that nectar so that you will become so intoxicated that you will never want to let go of it. Then you will fight for a better world because you will maybe have a sense of what life is really worth and so you will not be able to put up with a heartless system any longer. Bring it!

and what good will this utopian thinking do for a psytrance artist or anyone for that matter ..who has bills to pay , food to eat , maybe a wife and kid etc ? its not right , sure , the way the world is , but it is what it is , need money to live , need even more to create music etc , wake up , and whats the problem anyway , as i see it , there is enough good psytrance of all sorts and for all tastes already , whats this discussion about ?

Actually, it kinda is the point. The game is quite diverse and can be played in many different ways. Even the money itself is not a single entity (conspiracy theories notwithstanding). It comes back to who is playing and how.

I know somebody who preaches the same things about “The System”. A very “enlightened”, rebellious and otherwise “progressive” person. She once stayed with us for a couple of weeks. Every day she wore these ugliest shoes I’ve ever seen. Were they comfortable? No, they hurt her feet badly every single day. Did they have any special sentimental value? No, she hated them before she even took them out of the store. So, I asked her what the deal was. Well, apparently that was the hot fashion in her home country. I was very surprised, remembering all the speeches she gave us along the lines of what you wrote here: the System, the game, the trap, think for yourself, liberate your mind and all that stuff. I asked her what happened to her rebellious attitude. Well, there is a lot of pressure from the society, she said. You’re expected. You’re supposed. Etc. OK, I said, these are not the only shoes you have here. And nobody in Cleveland, Ohio cares about your shoes (except for an occasional chuckle at their ugliness, I am sure). So, why do you continue torturing yourself? Blank stare. It never even crossed her mind. “The System”, my foot! It was not “The System” who bought those shoes and wore them – even where nobody cared about those ugly things. Who was it?

Who stops you from doing both?
Works for me.
It’s actually quite enlightening. Except, if you dig deep enough you may come to some very disquieting conclusions about how this world actually works. I am not going to discuss it here, though.

You realize how ironically funny it is to read these two sentences together, don’t you?
Where do you think the term “bottom line” came from?
Anyway, just like Tsabeat and Axis Mundi said: money can buy new equipment, better software and (even more importantly) time in your studio. Or it can buy cocaine and expensive call girls and a team of interns who will write banal schlagers for you. It’s all about who is spending.
While we’re on this subject, I tip my hat to everybody who took the plunge and decided to go pro, to everybody who is managing to make an honest living without compromising his or her artistic integrity (or his/her business vision, in case of labels and organizers). Deep respect! And may big moola roll your way and reward you for your efforts.
P.S. And no, I am not talking about IM here.

money = time, education, access, gear and more time to practice, but sometimes no inspiration.
no money = no time, no education, no access, no gear, no time to practice but a lot of inspiration.
and the taste is subjective, no reason to even talk about it again... |

It's ok when a good artist that shows love and real interest in music makes money out of it,why not?It will provide him with tools to make even better music.
But it sucks when some people after a point in their career just change and make music for money..I find it pathetic and in my point of view it insults me and music itself, but it's a clever trap...I personally "filter" out any artist of that kind in any genre of music i listen to...
Music MUST be made from love and for personal exploration and sharing, when money gets between that it's not music it's a piece of crap
