ps.

lfo works better on basslines with longer sustain and slower bpm tracks fast bpm and fast basslines are more difficult to make good lfo settings!!

For one thing... I took a long sustained note for my bassline. Just one long note that starts after the kick drum and runs to the end of the 4 beat sequence and ran an unsynced retriggering lfo to control pitch and cutoff (Albino 2)... Then I used the Destroy FX Midi Gater to get the choppiness that I wanted for my bassline. I also played around with the pulsewidth, but didn't really get the results I wanted.

This is something I made with a friend many years ago (98 or 99 I think). I seem to remember it has quite a bit of LFO modulation on the 3 basslines: http://home.casema.nl/ajohnston/Paradigm_Shift-Melt_In_Aphasia-Prev1.mp3

Enjoy.

My Q' for you is....

HOW or DO YOU use LFO , in your basslines ?

Before you answer, I would like to be more specific....
I am only interested in the use of LFO in solid NON phase type bass sequences... ( I.E. - Not long filter sweeps or dramatic pitch changes)

I am also curious to know if you do not use any LFO at all .

thanks people ...

Personally, I rarely use LFO´s on basses...LFO´s are gold!, propbably one of the most vital synth-tools in our kind of music. But in my oppinion, you can easily mess up a good, solid bassline, rather than improve it, with LFO´s....then again feel free to xperiment ;-)

non phaze?

you're very vague, it's an interesting subject to think to work on, honestly... the control over modulators is an art, or a science... i believe everythings possible, but than we're talkin on psytrance and basslines!

Okej, sounds interesting.... i guess one could expand this with different bass layers to get one solid bass and one bass with some motion, probably the bass with motion on top.. or play the two basses inbetween eachother... might make an interesting pattern...

thanks for sharing your experiments mubali

i will experiment on this...

hey uccpd ... do you not understand what i mean by saying "non-phase"..?

I will try to elabirate...

You can use the LFO for many purpose's like to modulate the filter, pitch, and so on. But this often results in a almost constantly changing or evloving bass sound.

OR you can use the LFO, to complete the oscilators work, by adding strength and timbre or even clarity or thickness. All of these things can be achieved without affecting the "key/pitch" and also without a "phase'n or drifting" type effect.
(sorry it is hard to descirbe)

This was the reason behind starting this topic, i am interested to hear about other people's methods and opinions are on the matter.

one method to make your pad moving

*take pad (fat one)
*modulte the Reso in square mode(sync to 1/8 , 1/16...)
*close the cutoff abit (make it sounds like tb303 with Reso)
*play your chord

this methhod halped me in most of my track's.

give it a try -=(*_*)=-

its a question of how not what...

it doesnt matter what do you use in your work but how you do it.           <One learns people through the heart, not the eyes or the intellect>

I just talled you how to do it(in my post)
use the synth LFO or use effect its not so hard to work with LFO or modulte parameter's

Really rocomended VSTi for modulte parameter

*G-Madia: Mini Monstar - you can modulte evry knob that you want(evry knob!!!) and vrey good sound engine
*Albino-great modulation system , you can modulte allmost anything in there + nice LFO

you have in cubase great LFO - Tranceformer(this LFO modulte your freq & depth)

i haven't done it in a long long time

i used to modulate the filter cutof freq with a ver very very slow LFO (mind you, not every VST/synth allows such slow movements) but it can be done with automation too.

it sounds great when the change is not apparent but is happening and it isn't destroying the track balance

If I understand what some of you are saying, is that the lfo sync will retrigger the oscillation when another note is played?

So your using the LFO to add a variation to the bass sound for the duration of each individual note, because the lfo retriggers each time a new note is played, is that right?           Keep The Faith,
