In psytrance? You've got to be kidding. Most producers would rather cut off one of their... fingers than make a track LESS compressed.
And it's not the exact opposite of a compressor - once you apply a compressor, you have just lost information that cannot be recovered accurately by any other form of plugin - not even an expander.

expansion does not necessarily uncompress a mix, depends on how u use it...
with multiband compression, say with tc-finalizer... you can squash a band up with the limiter and the compressor so most of it operates within the -20dB to 0dB range...then if you expanded from say -30dB downwards, this will not affect the majority of the material, especially when its kicking... and it can help clean up noise especially in quiet passages like intros and endings... just be careful to give it soft settings because it can be quite easy to hear an expander operating... |

i thought the use for expanders was with recorded instruments, to make larger the difference between (low db) noise and recorded sound (high db). so that you get better signal-to-noise ratio...
