Not what do you want, or what do you own. What do you USE. That is your essential pieces of gear that really make your set up. Maybe a sampler, maybe a synth, maybe an outboard FX, whatever it is, what do you just love to get your hands on!!

I have a MAM MB33 synthesizer, but I rarely use it these days. I love the sound though if you are going to make for example goa trance... Dirty analog.. Yummie!

i use alot in... all my gear!
G2 engine & Virus C and to control them i use X-Station
if i want to record them i use my yamaha mixer(mg24)
coz all my synth's conacted to the group ch that conacted to my RME sound card that have one input
However,those are my main gear that i love to work with!!!

What I use: Alesis Andromeda, Access Virus, Korg MS2000, Korg Z1, Yamaha FS1R, DBX Compressors, Focusrite Compressor, Yamaha Reverb, Dramwer gate, BOSS VF1 FX, Lexicon Reverb, Soundcraft K1 console, Yamaha GA32/12 console, Emagic AMT8 interfaces.
What I don't use much or at all: Waldorf Pulse, Yamaha A5000. Novation Drumstation (Seems to be dead).
What I sold: Kurzweil K2600 (needed some cash), Yamaha O2R (Very ugly sound).
What I want: Long list.

I'm down to a Doepfer/A.Sys modular, Lexicon reverbs, Joemeek VC1Qcs and SC2.2 compressors, Alesis 3630, DBX 266XL, AKAI S1100 sampler and a Soundcraft Spirit Studio 8 desk.
I find my limitations are driving me to make better tunes, so the only thing I would like is good MIDI timming.

i use a Nord Lead 2X going into a Kaos Pad 2 and DXM06. i also use CDJ's to make some sounds!
the Kaos pad is great for making new sounds really fast.
yes its not the best setup, but im not rich and its great for the price!! i plan to get more hardware in the future, i like it better than software, altho it is more work and $$$, i like playing melodies anytime and not worry about my computer crashing.
as for what i dont use... i got a Trigger Finger and i rarely use it. but i will use it more in the future  |

Perfectly possible with your setup, if a little time-consuming and heavy on HDD usage... ReCycle, the scissors tool and the 'Q' key are your friends!

I use waldorf pulse (breadAndButter VirtualAnalog monosynth), korg EA-1 (aciiiiid), roland juno-60 (used mainly for DnB (distorted basslines in unison mode), but can do some very stereotypical trance sounds too, listen to astral's older work, he features this synth heavily), akai S3000XL (drums just sound better coming out of an akai), focusrite mixmaster (to add some 'gloss' to my hardware sounds), yamaha cs-10 (great analog monosynth, can sound like a tb-303 but can also do the usual analog monosynth shit, very raw and harsh oscillators) |
