hats dont have tone that needs to be fit in the scale of the track. its for rythem not melody.
use hat thats sounds good! i dont care if you can multyply their rate by 3.14 or other math stuff..

hehe...ton't take the drum tunning process in the same sense like you tune a synth

if you don t tune them with a sampler i m sure you do with a eq so they fit the track better.using the sampler and less eq you get fater sound imo( you don t have to remove half of the freq, just very light eq) but yes it s all about the sample your choosing at first

@ shamantrixx: actually, the modern equal temperament musical 12-note system we use today is not entirely based on profound mathematics, but is an adapted, watered down version that is easier to transpose.

actually I'm well aware of that so I use only VST instruments that can be re-tuned by non standard scales.

Once you define the tuning in a way that you have spiral of perfect fifths there's no need to transpose parts. Every tone fits any other tone perfectly. Since I don't write compositions that will be preformed by musicians I don't see why should anyone be able to transpose my tunes to different key.

I tune nearly all of my hats and cymbals (and percussion) in general, but only by fairly small amounts. Too much pitching it up or down I find usually destroys the character of the sample (unless of course that is what I am going for).           New Album: Jikkenteki - Flights Of Infinity

Shamantrixx, doesn't that mean DJs won't be able to mix your songs in key?

If such thing even can be done (mixing in a key) I don't see the problem with tracks using different scales. Most of the time the difference between standard tuning and tuning with perfect fifths is less than 0.3 of a tone. The equal temperament is slightly flat or sharp most of the time but even if you play it together with standard tuning it will sound like detuned unison.           "It occurred to me by intuition, and music was the driving force behind that intuition. i have to agree a little bit but.. generaly disagree here
my brother is drum teacher and drumming in bands 8 years now.
his dream is to have 12 crash's tuned for best fit. just too damm expensive....

and with that , if u choose by ear , u probably choose one that is harmonic to your song.
