Do you mean old as in "classics" old, or just something that is for example "last year"?

classics will always be classics

yep... i meant music that prolly relesed in 2003 or 2004 or even last year . I find that ambient and chill lasts much longer .. there are more releases that you can listen to and not find repetetive, you only tend to grow with the tunes. but in trance it isnt the same... there is so much evolution in sounds, getting more psychedelic, dark.. after a while it does get repetetive... and hence, you move on with newer releases. Even some 'killer' tracks just seem to fade away! why?

Nothing is said that has not been said before.

i cant get the difference between old stuff and classics, can anyone explain it "again"??
IMO that "classics" are the old ones..
last years releases arent old, my grandma is old
but it was mentioned before: good music stays good music, not affected by the time..

Classics is the kind of music that will last forvever, it does not matter if it's old or new! Why i could be listening to a classic right now and by time realise that it is a classic. Goa had many not so good music also but the very good ones that still live in our hearths will remain classics...Even Psytrance has it's own classics of course and i think every genre of music there is classics...

Hmmm, I think that's bullshit. Maybe you're just getting old. I'm just listening to Darshan's Awakening album from 1998 and it still sounds pretty good. But then again, I listened Jaia's 'Fiction' this morning and it sounded better. And that certainly wasn't lacking in heart or feeling. My point: there's a good deal of heart and feeling in the music of nowadays.

I've noticed a lot of people on this forum that complain about the music of nowadays containing no heart or feeling. But keep in mind that your good feeling of the music of some years ago is intertwined with nostalgia feelings which cloud better judgement. It's very simple. There was shit back then, there is shit now. There was good stuff back then, there is good stuff now. Music doesn't change overnight or after a couple of years, it's your own perception of it that changes. And people only remember the good stuff from back then. That doesn't mean there was better music back then, it's just that you forgot all the shitty releases.

Son Kite's 'Colours' or Jaia's 'Fiction' releases will probably be looked at as classics a few years from now. And they deserve it. We'll all talk about those in a few years, but releases that we didn't like now we won't be talking about in a few years. Looking back things always seem better than they were. See? It's a circle.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Jaia fiction and Son kite as classics i really do not think so man they are quite cheesy for my ears at least... the thing is that i do not grumble from todays quality but if you listen to older goa stuff and listen carefully to the sounds of the melodies because the beat is much much better nowadays, you will definatley feel that it is much more serious much more intense for sure. Another example since you mentioned Jaia (which is not trance in my opinion), if you listen to the older tracks of Jaia like Maia for example and compare to that of today you will arrive to same result that it is much more intense and better feeling of course the beat is 100% better but really a classic is made from a melody not from a beat!

And there we come to the taste factor again. I think if you compare nowadays Jaia music with former Jaia music I find that his style today is miles better than what he (they) used to make. And Son Kite cheesy? That's YOUR opinion man. Don't force it upon me. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one (to quote Dirty Harry)

And for sure music was more intense then maybe, but times have changed. Some people just don't wanna hear that kind of sound anymore. I tire of it very quickly. For example, I was listening to Awakening from Darshan just some time ago. It took me three songs and then I turned it off because I just don't have the attention span for that kind of music anymore. I look for emotion, feeling in tracks. I don't get that from fast paced acidlines. But, it's different for everybody, right? I for one am glad with the way the psytrance scene has progressed. Hooray for acts like Son Kite, Ticon, Jaia, Frogacult, Antix etc. etc.

As for melody, I like melodies too. But to me, Jaia for example makes far better melodies now than he (they) did before. The fast paced melodies of yesteryear just don't do it for me as much as they used to. I think the whole difference is that some people just progressed together with the scene and like it that way. Others have their foot firmly planted on the ground in 1997 and think all psytrance should still be made that way.

In any healthy organization we'd fire those kind of people (the ones that can't grow and get used to new things). You're just lucky music doesn't work that way.

You are right in many ways acidhive that the sound progressed bigtime and the production quality is much more amazing. My point is that todays sound is not as psychedelic as many tracks at the time. I like some of the music of today and in fact i say that the chillout has quite a trance expression than the dancefloor of today. It has really much more hearth and soul and the sounds take you to heaven. I am not in any way saying that there is no improvement in todays music all i am saying is that i do not like the sounds they use which in my opinion is also overused so becomes like plastic to my ears.

And also i am not forcing anything on you man i am was just saying my opinion which is purely honesty no hard feelings man.

This album will be internal classic. I can tell in now.

But i dont understand when u say it s different from ambient and rock and that u tend to move on and forget the good old stuff.
i believe that good music is ageless, and a good track would last forever, unless you really bet bored with it.
and to be honest, with the amount of releases recently, I am more than happy to listen to my old cosmosis albums

i totally understand that good music is good no matter how old or new....
i listen to a lot of chilll and ambient. now... i listen to older releases as much as i listen to newer releases. wether classis or simply stuuff that relesed last year... i find that what i listen to is not really mood oriented. as a default i have tracks/compilations/cds mixed up that i keep playing.
i might be wrong in saying so...but with trance.. most i know listen to music that releases 'now', listen to it for a while, then move on to what is 'new' or unreleased at that time! .. what is heard seems to just fade out... and older stuff is played just when in mood, or just to get back sweet memories.           Nothing is said that has not been said before.
