Hi Everybody,
I want to ask if it is necessary to buy a big Midi keyboard Master (as Evolution or edirol Usb) or just a small one ?
what do you have as Keyboard ?
how note its contain ?
I loved the Evolution mk-245 (25 Notes I guess) a small one, but I don't want to buy until to know your responses and idea !
Thanks you
peace. |

Well, I suppose that you have to ask yourself the question wether you would need all those keys at the same time at any point in your production process (i.e. playing leads covering multiple octaves e.t.c.). I got myself an Oxygen8 (two octaves) which works fine for me. I mainly use it to record automations and to play along with some synthesizer while I'm tweaking it, so two octaves is fully ok with me.
I suppose it is a matter of taste and if you need it in the process and previously mentioned... |

Keyboard depends on your piano playing ability, if you use two hands then probably 25k won't be enough. It is not about taste or anything. Any music the same not only psytrance. |

25 is good. If you need higher notes, then you can always use transpose. |

I always play the bassline in realtime using a midi-keyboard. I have a problem tough, even tough I've played piano for about 7 years my finger seems to get stiff after playing through a track 'bout 8 mins... strange.

well, there is no straight answer. i tried 25 keys, and it was definitely too small. now i own an evolution 49 keyboard (mk449c) and love it, since i try to play all kinds of sounds - bass, pads, strings, leads, psy effect leads, anything. you can, for example, find out some great stuff by playing psy lead in the 1st and then in the 5th octave, which you cannot achieve with 2 octave keyboard, at least not that easily. if you want to play leads, strings, and bass, you will use transpose button all the time, which can become annoying pretty soon. my reccomendation is therefore - as big as you can buy and as big as it can be on your table.

for (home)studio use i'd go with at least 49 keys, on stage 25 is maybe okay. I used to have oxygen 8 (2 octaves) but was kind of small... I sold it to my friends which are using it on their live gigs and they're happy with it. And I'm happy with my evolution mk-461C
Some vst's have use for more than 2 octaves as the lowest keys are used for controlling the synth. Ohmforce's melohman:symptohm and Sonic Charge's microTonic come into my mind at the moment... For home use i'd say go for 61 if you can afford it. And it's always a pleasure to try out different synths at different pitches without twiddling the octave button as vox said. BIgger keyboards are generally sturdier/heavier which is a nice thing when playing a lot. |

Depends what u need it for. If u want 2 play some classical pieces or jazzy stuff get 88 full size hammer action keys, esspecially for velocity expression.(probably not very useful in trance)
If u want 2 audition ur vsts while tweaking then get 2 or 4 octaves, but this is mostly a nice 2 have, dont spend a lot of money on it unless u like 2 play or want 2 learn.

Thank you so much for your precious answers, I'm really confused for a decision !!
But I think 49 keys is my choice from your reviews , I will buy M-audio Keystation 49e, it is simple, and cheap !
Thank you !!!
Psychedelically yours
