Do VST plugins affect sound by just being "on"?? I think I can hear a difference by just turning an eq on with is set completely flat. Has anyone else noticed this? It's definitely a subtle difference. I guess a linear phase eq probably has less effect.
The reason why I'm concerned is I use sidechain compression on almost every sound to some degree, and I use the built in compressor in Cubase. Is this affecting the sound on every track even when the sidechain is not in use? I can't hear it really, but if it happens to the EQ, then I guess it may be happening to the compressor. Can you get a linear phase compressor??
Thanks in advance

What EQ are you using. Must just be the plugin or your settings |

I'm using the Cubase standard EQ and UNIQUEL-IZER. It may be my imagination, but by routing through the plugins, can that change the actual information or the way the information is processed in some way? Could it possibly be lowering the quality or applying some sort of generic low-pass or high-pass filter in order for the plugin to process the waveform at a higher speed? I can understand doing this for a simple EQ where reduction of processing power is important.
Thoughts?

Yeah your right! some plugins give a lot of color to sounds even if the parameters r in zero point. |

Some of the plugins do that.
I often put Pultec or Fairchild with nothing happening just to bring some color, which is really subtle, but it is there.
