Was wondering why all the graphics on the front cover of a cd album and the backside too, why do we need some graphic artist to design a cover which may noy always tell the story of the various tracks in the music album ...... why not just have a plain text cover?

I may not be totally right, but im not wrong either...........           Coming soon....

Yeah, and what's all that fuss with the Jewel Case...? Maybe we should take the Cd wrapped in a tissue. It would cost less.           Bring yourselves into the light

Dear hippy,
I think ART on a cd is very important.
It transmits you emotions, feelings, toughts, it visually represents the story of the music.
Yes, you are right, sometimes the artwork on a cd has nothing to do with the music, but I think is better than only plain text I mean, having the oportunity to print on a good quality, I think is stupid printing only plain text.

It could be only plain text (and it happened already)

..but it has to be worked as a picture, some graphic designers can work with the text with a deep sensibility and are able to suggest nice layouts only with color changes and details in the text.           .

I think it is highly important to have a CD cover if the music is about to be released and consequentialy sold through shops etc. because, imagine ... you enter a music shop and you find yourself 'face to face' with hundreds of CD's with white covers and black letters ... WOW , and you are looking for that CD you have read about on the internet, heard samples, saw 'The white cover with black letters' and here you are .... man you are going to have a hell of a ride through those shelfs there.

Basically this is the greatest need of the CD to have a cover, not to mention that any original placement of the text on a white cover with black letters, that will make that CD different from any other is yet a graphic design and someone need to do it, you know what i mean.

The rest regarding the design of the cover is rather an evolution of this basic idea, and it is amazing where it is at this point of time , no ?

that has nothing to do with the fact you are graphic designer right?

Graphics are used for commercial needs. Good designer = the human that can draw something on a product and make you buy it.

kooz it is art also like music and like this it is linguage too...
u can ask all you want with the art cd like to give a litle of your music work emotions starting with the art in that like a text or all about linguages,arts...
but for me art covers in cds are very inportant and better any other kind of art exept the music(of-corse) kooz the art cover is something sensitive like the music art too

some of us are Music designer...
some of us are Visual designer...
still, we are all doing art!!!

the future have always been the combination of both...
to one global piece of art.

after all, we do it for the people...
and as long as,
Art = Exploring.
we have to give the people,
the ultimate experience of music and visual....
to re-defines our scenes...

isn't that what this is all about,
using the music to break on through...

I find there is not enough artwork on our cds, the cover is always 1 page recto/verso, whereas in the broader cd industry it is always a little booklet with at least 8 pages of texts and/or artwork. This is shame for it would increase the will to buy, whowever with the will to buy not being there, labels can't afford to pay graphic designers to do a bigger job, it's a viscious circle.
If there is any shallowness in our music, it's the fact that the cd's are too often wrapped up like junkfood...
Each cd booklet can say as much as the cd itself, so speak up illuminated-ones!
