Sure, but a smooth transition is nicer than an unexpected jolt. This is, of course, assuming there has been any sort of progression... sometimes I am not too sure if everyone uses that word in the same way

i have no problem with letting the other guys track play out, then starting mine right after his shit winds down and everyone claps a bit. i mean, it's like we're not in this together. why not give props where props be due?

Its important for a DJ to be both talented and commercial. Talented for the people to enjoy and commercial for the organizer to at least not loose money by booking him.

Nahh the organizers need to be a bit more creative. I do not but that old song about they will loose money if they do not book X-star who can not DJ (train-wreck and no communication with the floor)or only play one direction music.
It's an old tale that got no root in reality. Usually spoken by those who do not have a diverse taste and mostly go for the commercial

no breaks plix, i usually start my track somewhere in the last minute of the previous dj's set, unless its a known attentionwhore who really needs the claps, and i encourage the dj after to do the same after me.

it's somewhere in the middle,mix late outro whith your intro,no silence so that everyone understands new set's coming up whithout to much noise!on the other hand, if we asume that dj is an artist,he needs his refund from the crowd,not the money of course,but the clap,whitch shows some respect and apreciation for what he offered... |

outro to intro is fine, coz then you know something is pretty much changing.
The other thing I've enjoyed recently is a lot of the big name progressive scene (not psy/goa prog) playing 4+ hours sets. i think it can work so well, James Zabiela did it awesomely working up from some chilled/IDM styles into progressive and even some proper techno and then taking the ride back out again. Danny Howells was another this year who did and 8+ hour set that was just beautiful.
I don't think I could handle the Cosmo 10 hour set or a Goa Gil 24 hours master blaster dark core set, but someone who worked a long set of all psy styles flowing in together would be amazing.
Just seems like ppl are to focussed in this scene on playing their signature sound and not making a journey.

I like to start with the very beginning of a track, maybe even ambient, make sure there is a "certain change" but do keep it running, it kind of lets the audience know that hey, something is changing, still the flow is on, so no disruption, just a change... and I do like to kick a beat in soon after that, a little time in between, maybe 10 secs or so with out beat......the whole transition would take a minute or so, from 1 to the next...

If its an club party (Indoor) I like nonstop .
If its a nature party/Festival i gree 100% with Upavas , This is good - This few minutes when there silence you can hear the birds ..
