hi
i would like to use live 5 for playing more than 3-4 hrs sets which would be a mix mash of various genre's like funky electronic, chillout, breaks and dnb etc ....
if any of you could point out to some good online tutorials that focus mainly on the djing aspect and the use of various effects/plugins while djing/mixing i would be more than thankful
cheers

when I heard about djying with ableton Live automatically my thoughs goes to the great Digital mixer midi interface "Allen & Heath XONE 3D"
Simply the big dream !
while trying to follow the instruction of some tutorials in their website about djying, I feel that it is so complicated to do simple things , probably with a midi controller it will be amazing !
any tutorials ??
peace. |

hi, i played a dj set with ableton live once and there is no big deal with it, its pretty goooood.
you just need to work with it a little bit and you will find out by yourself. to make sure that all the tracks fit with each other, you have to prepare them on matching manualy at home before you go to the party. you should also have an external controller for midi, because djing with a mouse isnt very cool. depends on how you would like to collect it.
i need more specifical questions to answer you, so just ask, if you like also per PM, but in the forum its better... because
ableton is a fantastic software which makes things on djing possible you will never never will be able(ton) to realise with CDJ-players. |

@Kitnam
so the trick is to prepare songs already at home and save the whole project of the night in a file ??
I know a lot of big djs works with ableton in their PowerBooks, but I find it hard, as I'm playing with VirtualDj with Pioneer DJM500 skin, just real !
Anyway I'm interessted to know more about Ableton.
with kinds regards,
peace. |

Actually with Live, there´s no much difference between a live and a dj set... It´s just amazaing what u can do whit this program.
And there´s no ONE trick... Indeed u need to prepare the tracks before the show, but u can do much more than simply beat maching the songs!

I think I need visual courses, as video tutorials or staring to a DIGITAL Live! DJ

I must say I find that preparing set's beforehand would never work for me.
You will never know the mood, weather and what been played beforehand.
Without taking those parameters into consideration I would never personally feel I could call myself DJ, so preselection is totally out of the question.
Not to mention how tedious it is to prepare something like an 8hr set in advance.
But I do DJ using Live, and it takes me about 10-15 seconds to find and sync up a track, so I don't understand at all what you guys is talking about.
Just do the same thing you do at home when syncing them, but do it live while following the mood of the crowd.
