What do you guys think about the cross fader?
Do you use it, or do you just use the channel faders instead and leave the cross fader in the middle?

I use both.

Cross fader when I want to do transforms.

Channel faders for when I mix.           Keep The Faith,

I learned to spin by not using the crossfader, just the channel faders, so I'm afraid now I'm kind of stuck in my ways. I just leave it turned off on my mixer. But I have seen some DJ's do some pretty nifty tricks with the crossfader

I sucked at transitions at first cause I was using the crossfader.

Then I switched to the channel faders and I immediately 'got it' and was billions of times better.

I use the cross fader frequently. It comes in handy when mixing full-on or other energetic styles that are naturally filled with cuts and drops. Use channel faders when you want a smooth mix and play around with the cross fader when you want to deploy small slices of an incoming track or (this is fun) apply your own kind of gating effect. When you become really versatile with the cross fader it begins to feel as if you are part of the music, molding it as it plays out--but it generally takes much more skill to use than the channel faders, and sounds shoddy if you aren't doing it right (or if your tracks aren't perfectly aligned).
