I was thinking....
A lot of producers started DJing before they went into producing music. And i think that having a background as a DJ is a major advantage -compared to starting off producing especially dance music.
I've never DJed, just played with a friend system. and i realized how much is involved.
The advantages is ,i think;
*Getting a feel for mixing frequencies. (the system i fooled around with had Bass, Mid and Highs to mix in both sides of the tracks into) you prob know what i mean
*Getting a sense of build-ups, breaks, sweeps and that kind of thing. the overall impression of what makes a good dancing tune.
anyways, i'm considering to purchase a DJ setup(starter kid). not only to better my skills as hobbyist producer,, i can also generate some extra cash as DJ.
any opinions on this?
how did you start off?

I started learning to produce before I ever became a DJ. Before that I didnt really have a solid handle on the basics of trance, how trance tracks are commonly created, and all the little elements that make a good track a stomping menace. After spending a few years learning to DJ, my own tracks definitely took on a more coherent edge. I highly advise it even if you werent a producer because mixing is really FUN! Its been almost 4 years Ive been DJing and I have yet to be paid for it, though here in the US psytrance parties arent as common as they may be in South Africa (which I would die to visit ).
Good luck learning, dont get discouraged and have fun. Be prepared to lose days of your life and lots of money . But its totally worth it all in the end!
