Let's get the debate back on track.

I love Techno and Tech House and think in many ways it's much more similar to the idea of what tribal or hypnotic "back to the roots" trance is all about than a lot of modern trance that IMO have lost the "trance" feeling even though it got less similarities with the melodic Goatrance/Psytrance as Techno is less layered and more minimal focusing on beats and bass whereas example Goa/Psytrance focus more on the uplifting melody and layers of melodies playing together.

But there is a point that seem to be missing in this debate.

When you buy a ticket to a party of a Festival that promote itself as a "Psytrance Festival" then I would expect Psytrance to be the main genre and not Techno. I don't mind Techno being played as I love it but if I want to listen/dance to Techno I will go to a Techno party and not a Psytrance party.           www.beatagency.dk

100% Agreed but if you look at various Festivals within the trance scene quite a few Mainstages book a majority of artists that got very little to do with Psytrance and much more to do with Techno/Tech (even though many have a history in the psytrance scene). But these Festivals promote their events in the psytrance scene and many times even call the line-up "Psytrance". I do not see these Festivals promote their evens outside the psytrance scene in example the techno scene.

A suggestion is to stop calling it psytrance and move toward a wider promotion not focusing only on the psytrance scene as the use of the music term psytrance then become quite misguiding.           www.beatagency.dk

nicely put.

i totally agree with this statement. techno has its place on the dancefloor. but it shouldnt replace psytrance. and especially if the people are expecting psy. Ive seen many folks standing around at psy parties when techno is on only to explode when the trance drops.
Its a great way to build up the night and ease out the morning, but it cant replace what psytrance can do.

Check the lineup at various European festivals this summer and for that matter the last couple of years. I do not say the lineup is 100% "Techno" but it seem the majority of acts on the main-stages are going in that direction while the Organizers still keep promoting it as psytrance and only in the psytrance scene.

Don't get me wrong.I don't have a problem with the music but I think it's misleading people promoting it as psytrance. However I am sure many know their artists but there are also people (newcomers etc) who might not know all the names thinking they are going to a psytrance festival.

There is in fact an international law against false marketing (Not that I am sure it apply to a "psytrance" festival).

hmm and what about focusing on the line up and not in what a flyer says?? most people alreardy know what music they're gonna listen depending on the line up and not just a written prologue of a festival.. for example last year at Ozora which promotes itself as a pure psy festival, you were knowing for sure that you are gonna listen and a lot of techno except psy trance because of the line up. Titles are just not making sense to me at all, I don't care if it says Psy trance or Techno or whatever and I am sure the most people do they same because they know what they are gonna listen . Music is the engine of choosing a festival that you wanna go! Now if some people expecting from some djs/producers to play trance and finally they play techno is another story, but since almost everyone has access to internet it's easy know what kind music every dj play

@Tasos_NOtrea

I can assure you there are indeed people attending Festivals who have very limited knowledge in who's who and what they play. People who might only just discovered psytrance and mistakenly think that's what they are going to listen to.

Not everyone goint to festivals frequently visit isratrance or know every little detail about the artists/Dj's.

The point is still that people should be able to count on what they are promised. I don't understand why it's so hard to use the right terms regarding what kind of music you add to the lineup.

Would you not be disappointed if you go to a rock concert just to find out rock has been replaced with reggae? Just an example so dont shoot me           www.beatagency.dk
