And for the rest of the discussion: Artist have the right to do music as they want and sell it as they wish. I'm happy for them that they can live and pay their bills making music, if this couldnt be cone we probably would have much less music to make.
And face it, they dont make big bucks for their job. They still could make more doing other type of music instead many of them in some period over their carrer dropped some 2-3 super nice albums(like Infected, skazi and protoculture) that hold the test of time. And if you look all around the music world there is very few bands, projects, artist (as you wanna name it) that has more than 3 excellent albums, its like a creative limit. |

I think that this is nothing new most of the psytrance artists today are making money, much money from commercial sound. It's normal i think that these people turn to make commercial music because they are artists trying to make a living with what they love to do, so why not? why should anyone interfere? Let them be it's all good by time they even take there sound away from the Psy scene like some did and it's also good cause we don't need to here commercial music at the festivals.
We are not part of that scene anyway so why care if the artist wants to be rich! I prefer for me to have enough money to live my simple life happy making the best psychedelic music i can, for buying equipment well you either take a loan or else work some other work to get the money it's not that hard when you love the music so much you can do anything to get it sounding better...It's a sacrifice and everything comes with hard work nothing is easy!
The psyspirit is not dead at all man look around you it's happening everywere in different ways it's happening in you right now, one day for sure it will reopen and shed it's wings to let us fly in the music again! And honestly do you think people like Infected and protoculture want to kill the scene? Do you think that anything human can kill the spirit living within?I am sure not it's much bigger than all of us put together and it's there waiting to come out again...

dont like it ? dont listen to it . most of the people complaining are just jelaous because its not them making lots of money with music production. like it or not but money is really in the center of this world and there is nothing wrong with if you like money. on the other side you can cause some nice moments to the more fluffy people with your more fluffy music, its still about love. or you can go and live in a cave also or in the woods like robin hood, its all your choice............ "look around and choose your own ground" |

living from electronic music... its not for me. not aplicable with attitude like i present. Not with music i compose, not with mindset like i have.
and i simply can't imagine situation that i do something that is bringing money instead of bringing satisfaction and joy. Of course there is a huge pool of musicians:
- that feel they do right and have both money and joy (perfect! dream!)
- or they feel satisfied with music they produce trying to search for trends and sell their "directed and trendy" music (which is also cool as i can imagine)
- or do music for money they know how to earn and do this music with perfidia and premeditation and feel happy because people buy it (what a fun!)
That is all good! Really! Unfortunatelly my problem is that i can't accept none out of aboves except first one, which is unreal for me to achieve due to music i love to compose.
How bad i would feel thinking "i can't do that or this" in my track because people won't buy it?
but im ok and feel perfectly fine! with money from my music or without

Well, i don't see that making a promo for your self is a crime, and this thing doesn't harm the psytrance scene at all...
Simply, ignore this promotions if its making bad feelings for you…
I think, its very healthy and I will vote for Psy artists. Let them be on the map too.
Wish the best luck & support to your community-artists so they fulfil their desires!
& please stop crying & yelling, coz its not healthy for your heart...

yes, your hero simon posford charges much much more than enough, let's say he sucks out the money from your holy scene (a promoter who books him can hardly make another party in the same year) and yes, he nominated himself in djmag top 100:

I love thse ppl who say they dislike the djmag top 100 ... and still try to get voted in ... because of their "management" or what ever blabla ...
honestly i would be happy to be in the top 100 (for the reason that nate already told)... but i don't see a reason yet to spam all my friends myspace,msn,orkut or what ever...as i'm also kinda anoyed to get spammed from 1000 of artist ... and i don't see a chance yet to get voted in ...so why the effort for nothing ?
For sure there are a couple of tranceartist who deseve to be in this list (not even for the money and gig aspect) ...just bcause they are top notch producers ...
but some artist in the transcesce who already spammed my acconts they seem to make absolutely worthless promotion...as they never will get even in the top 1000 ...
just my 5 cents ...

Yeah, I've been spammed by some complete nobodies that somehow think they've got a shot at the top 100. What a joke!
Anyway, Nate makes some great points here, and he has remained true to his roots. At some point all "psychedelic people" need to assess whether their expectations of artists are reasonable or not. In most cases, probably not--especially when it comes to the business end of things.
