Guys what do you think of almost all the top acts in our scene trying to get into the DJ MAG top?

Very strange for me honestly...

By the way these artists are:
Just a few examples:

Protoculture, Infected, 40%....

Well... its simple. They want to break the psytrance image/mould. Just like Infected who clearly stated that in their Dj Mag bio. Well Infected left tht image a long time ago.. so they are pretty much sitting in the top 15 pretty nicely. The others want all the money and the fame as well... hence the pursuit.

Well .. each to his own.

Most of the Dj Mag/ Dj list is all balls anyways in all actuality. Its basically for all promo and the hype. Thts y even biggies like Fat Boy Slim dont care abt all this anymore.

For me, I think that they want to disseminate their names, consequently win parties to play... consequently win money!!!

Just to set the record straight... cause it seems like a lot of us producers get shit like this all the time.

The dj list, for me personally is also a bit stupid... but it does do wonders for your career should you be listed there. You do get a lot more work, and yes it does make you more money. Which brings me to my next point...

How do you people think I make my music? How do I pay for the studio in which I produce? How can I afford to pay the bills for me, my wife, and my family at the end of the month? I do this full time, its my job, and I have to work really hard at it to make a living. Im not some trust fund hippy with millions of dollars lying in a swiss bank account somewhere. I worked for two years cooking pizzas in a pizza restaurant to pay for my first synth (before you could just bang out tunes in a day with fruity loops) So yes, money is an issue for me, as Im sure it is for all of you here when you get out of bed in the morning to go to work. So stop dissing artists for trying to survive.

Also, why not promote artists to the rest of the world? It creates an enviroment for people to try harder, make better music, for more people to get turned on to the lifestyle and culture that we all know and love.

One of the reasons artists like myself, astrix, infected, are trying to break the psy trance mold is because of bullshit attitudes like this. I just wish you people could accept the fact that things are changing, be happy for us that we are doing well, and be happy that you've still got really underground acts that don't promote themselves like this. People have different agenda's and you should just accept that. If you dont like what I, and other artists are doing... dont support us, its that simple, you dont need to bitch about it all the time.

Furthermore, dont see me doing this as selling out. Anyone who has followed my music will know I've always been on the boundary between psy and standard trance, and you know what, thats what I like. I'm not working my ass off for a minority of listeners on some internet forum. I'm doing what I love doing and I hope some of you start to see things from my point of view.

"Well .. each to his own. "

Thanks, thats exactly it, we are doing whats best for us.

"Thts y even biggies like Fat Boy Slim dont care abt all this anymore."

Thats because they don't need to, they went through all this promoting and stuff ages ago and are so big now it doesnt make any difference to them. Us psy trance producers are still small compared to them.

Anyways, this is my two cents... seeing that my name was mentioned in this post. I'm just giving you guys my side of the story, although I'm sure I'm gonna take shit loads of flak for my opinions.

Cheers
Nate

Nate i mentioned your name cause i saw your myspace today...

I respect you as an artist and i know exactly where you came from... I also live from this... And i also got bills to pay, no parents here supporting for sure...

By the way i choose to use a diff name for more comercial things related with music... Don't wanna mix them...

Good example is i hate infected and so does my GF but... I got the rmx of THE DOORS and i love it, but cause it has that name INFECTED my GF doesnt even put it on, but the other day she was hearing it and said fucking hell thats good and then i said its INFECTED and she just replied yeah deff they should be a BAND and leave the PSYSCENE alone...

I REST MY CASE...

Oh and i do know that people on that list get paid much more too... Even if they are SHIT.... Or even if they are only producers NOT djs...

Anyway... Ball is in the field...

I think you dont need to reply to this just see what other people have to say...

Hey bro

No hard feelings at all, I just thought I'd put this post up cause I think a lot of peeps on these forums have no idea what its like living as a producer. If you do, and you still have a different opinion thats up to you, I'll never rag someone who has his/her own "EDUCATED" opinion. You have to admit that a lot of these posts get started and just carry on forever slagging off artists left right and centre and I merely wanted to state my side of the story so people know both sides. Anyways, like I said, not stepping on any toes, just showing another side to the story.

Isn't that all it should be at the end of the day? Just good music. Hell, I'll admit, I'm no fan of infected either, for me the last good thing they did was "the gathering", but you got to respect what those guys are doing. There production is excellent, and they're incredible businessmen when it comes to promoting and creating an image.
I'm getting to a point in my career where Im really getting tired of these "genres" we create and so love to slag off all the time. To be honest, a lot of my dj set these days is coming from Trance artists, not psy, and its working really well I might add (a lot of people on the dance floor often ask me who these tracks are by, cause they think the are psy and didn't realize they are from a different genre entirely)
Anyways, I guess the point I'm trying to make is I hope people start becoming more open to new ideas. There is a whole new market to explore, new ideas to come up with (both in production and promotion) and I hope we can start to open up a little and be less hostile when someone takes a chance and does something new and innovative.

Yeah fair enough i know how these threads go...

But like i said change names is what i think people should do... Keep it small keep it underground... Anyway just my humble opinion...

You did something that surprised me and you deserve a big RESPECT cause you came here (isratrance) and you stated your opinion like i said fair enough, i wish you all the best in the world even if we desagree on this...

Yes i do agree with you they are incredible producers (IM) and i see them having great success outside the realms of psy... Also the promotion TEAMS around the world working for them have put them where they are now... It could have been you... Or me...
I also hate to label stuff but mate i grew up in psy and i dont like people recking it...

@ Nate ... no flak at all . Your points are very valid.
Never meant to diss any1 here. And your right on the ball with regards to FBS as he has been there; done that, and the fact tht psytrance producers are still small compared to them. But on the contrary the good thing is tht among the top 100 djs mentioned in Dj mag.. quite a few are from the psy-trance genre. Which is good coz, the music is being appreciated worldwide.

As i said, the Djmag/list is basically for the hype and the promo purposes and u said it does wonders for ones careers. But you and i for a fact knows tht its just nothing but over rated and completely poll based. So does it really imply to the skills and music ?
I'm still not quite sure about that... which is why it is quite baffling for me.

Just my cent.

Good luck with it, and i hope u reach wat u aimed for.

Too right mate, very valid point. In fact, guys like Tiesto that end up at the top usual do so by employing hundreds of people who just spend all day promoting the dude, thats why he's so popular in those polls, not necessarily because of the music. That said, because of that promotion, he earns up to 80 000 Eu a gig at times. Not to be sniffed at...

Anyways, I think its fine to promote yourself like this as long as it doesn't interfere with what you stand for. It does with a lot of people, but I've taken a long hard look at this and told myself that I would be promoting and selling myself as I am rather than change what I stand for to fit in to another scene. Like I said before, I've always been on the border between normal trance and psy trance, so it seemed a logical progression.

haha
i think thoose artist should leave the psy trance community.
they dont understand that they are killing the whole psy spirit and they are destroying what some of us are trying to keep for years.
fuck your money and all that shit we are psy hippies here trying to promote some way of living and some of you guys are giving the people a whole new message how should the psy trance need to look like.
its ok to get rich and live from music, but leave this psy community alone dont destroy it, it is bigger than you.
