hey guys,
ive decided to move on from vinyl and decks to strictly computer based...i got my self an sound card ECHO firewire audio interface...set up the headphones and monitor outputs perfectly...now i need a controller for hands-on shit....kill 4 eq bands so 8 knobs in total...a crossfader...gain control....and the usual play pause cue stuff...i saw the m-audio one X-session pro..looks good! is there anything that might be better at the same price range...and what about traktor is this the most proffessional dj software on a mac or automix and virtualdj better?
please anyone with experience let me know!!!
thanks guys

definitly: VESTAX VCI-100

great feel, seemless integration with traktor, metal, good knobs, good look..

my roomate has one, after having had a look at about 5 or 6 other controllers in a store it was clear, that the vestax was the only one which did not feel like fisher prize.

No cdj stutter though. vinyl like behaviour.

there is a new vestax with soundcard integrated though.. maybe sell your echo           Most of my music for you to download at:

Hercules RMX

Solid built, classy looks, very functional, soundcard/dj controller in one and bus powered, excellent performance with Virtual DJ.

And cheap(for what it offers)

BCR 2000 + A4Tech X7 G100 + Autohotkey + Ableton Live =

Enough knobs and buttons to have instant control over many effects on 3-4 tracks and have a nice bank of loops and fx that can be triggered and completely mouseless control.

No point in emulating CDJ's when laptop DJ'ing can offer so much more...start from scratch and explore the possibilities!

VCI-100 I think is a very good controller like SCM said
I personally use Behringer BCD3000 which has it's own soundcard but I am about to upgrade to Motu Ultralite and use that for output, however I intend to keep on using BCD3000 as a MIDI controller only, of which I think it does a rather nice job Mayeb that is something you can look into as well One advantage of BCDs over BCRs si that BCDs have jog wheels

@Saii
Most things are assignable in Live but not stuff like loading a track from the file-browser into a session slot which requires a sequence of key presses. Also some more basic stuff like setting up loops of predetermined lengths you have to implement with AHK. That's just a couple of examples...for completely mouseless control the AHK script turns out quite lengthy.
If you are seriously interested I can share the script I written for you to have a look at.

The reason I use a separate keypad is that the layout of a regular keyboard is not ideal...things just become a lot clearer with the G100.
Here is a picture of sketch I made for an old revision to give you an idea how it looks when I put some labels on it:
