So which CD-Player do you use to DJ?
Why do you prefer these ones?
What lacks / missing?

Aight so maybe I am in the stone age with my 100's... and thinking of flogging them off secodn hand, the CDJ 200 is much more affordable for me, as in I can them within the next 8-9 months, where as the 400's would have to wait until next year. My question is, seeing as I'm just a cd user, no mp3/WAV's is it really worth my while waiting the extra few months to get 400's? Is the difference in the jog wheel and other controls much smoother etc? please only reply if you actually have used them, not just your opinion after visiting the Pioneer web site to read the specs!

Have not used the 200 but own 400s and cannot recommend them enough, very awesome product!!! 0.2 precious pitch shift, as well as wide (ability to double up the speed or slow it down to complete stop using the pitch shift), as well as 0.5 precision, ... well you know the specs I guess hehe but just wanna say they are really great. Nice effects too and the jog wheel feels good too, also dig the light around the jog wheel So yeah, maybe find someone who has them and try em out, or try em out at a store or something but they are definitely very cool

The compatibility of dealing with CDJ 200 is far better than 400 for sure. And hey..for CDJ 200 you may buy a nice rubber stick for a jog..so its soo nice to work on it

yeah, the first time i played on the 200's i felt the extreme lag in the jog wheel.. it was over sensitive and always made me mess-up a tight mix. i haven't played with the 400's yet but i can see that they've adapted the ball-berring jobwheel much like in the 800's and the 1000's. the only negative i heard regarding the 400's was in regards to the USB compatibility and that i was slower to load stuff from the USB sticks but i think that Pioneer has updated the firmware since..

who needs those usb-sticks anyway... i think it's the best buy around.... a compact cdj1000MKIII, for me the jog feels very good so i don't miss that button that adjusts the feel of the jogwheel

well for me..if i could choose CDJ 800 ) just enough for me nice BIG jog, no extra functional buttons, nice pitch control, friendly to use

+1 or the 1000mk3 with the 0.2 pitch. CDJ800 is probably cheaper to buy second hand than the 200/400 are to buy new.

Would have to agree there too.... the 200's are my least favorite cd players and when I see them on stage, I seriously consider mixing in my computer instead of using the cd players. I really do like the 800's. I don't really tend to use the extra features that the 1000's have, but for me the 800's are a solid feeling deck and ones I would own if I djed more often.

its only $100 difference between the 400 and 800 so its not that much

have played on 400 few days ago and i must say, that i still prefer 800! I just dont like too many stuff and unusefull knobs on the player ( such as CDJ 400 ).. i need to have a nice jog ( big jog ), loop ( in & out ), reloop button, nice pitch control and thats probably it One last thing.. When you are buying something...the price really doesnt matter. Its like an investment. Its like a car.. you buy it because you can drive it, when you want something more you sell it and buy a new one. Its the same with the CD players. If you would like to have more things avaliable on your cd player, you buy a new one, till than you drive with the old one.

epic, now you have turned upside down all economic theory.
Resources are scarce men of course price matters, unless youre very wealthy.
Tell me One thing you can do with 800 that cant be done with 200? Is it useful?
on the contrary 400 has features that are useful (MIDI and USB connectivity).
But anyway surely pioneer is going to update 800 and 1000, since their competition has realesed good decks on the lat couple of years (check denon 3700, 5500, numark icdx, cdx...).
There are good deck beyond pionner out there.

Hehe mate,
playing music since i was 8 my friend DJing since i was 15 ( so 10 years is going to turn this year ) and in this time i have learned something. If there is something you like , something you will comfortable with, something which gets you there...dont you hesitate and get it ( sooner or later ) well.. i started with decks ( technics ) moved to gemini double header and old numark mixer ( with only 2 faders and nothing else ), after that...i started with and ONLY Pioneer brand, which is IMO best on the market.

Anyway..if we leave that stuff behind. I have played on almost every Pioneer deck made and i am fully suporttative to 800. Why? Well, i have told you that in my previous post. Because..its simply build ( only loop mode, good and nice pitch control, big jog deck, nice display / even reverse is too much..also a vinyl mode is too much ) but nevermind about that. This 800 is a player which IMO is best from The Pioneer. The 200s are small for what they have on it. They could be easly compared with 1000s ( too much stuff on it..stuff you dont really need to play a good mash up ) and the 100s..well..they could be simply compared with 800s ( no extra buttons on it ) plaint and simple.

100s : Good old CD player, with good old laser and nice rotor abbility

200s : well... too much knobs at one SMALL player...new DJs would get lost on that deck

400s : totally out of the range.. this is a player which i wouldnt have and wouldnt buy. Vinyl mode on..c-mon...example: "400 XL edition" will have iPOD aswell ( hehehe.. ) , maybe you could play it with mobile phone... This is a player which is no needed really. Design is out and USB ( what about if USB got corrupted when you are heading on a GIG??? what about than? and that is all you have... THE CDs are still TOP NOTCH!!! I dont trust USB stuff what concirns playing tracks and leaching tracks out of them..NO WAY JOSE )

1000: TOP NOTCH player..really nice and smooth, good one and wonderfull But why to have it..if i could have 800 for my needs but 1000 is an enormous "cow" )

Cheers mate and hey, this is only my opinion and expressing myself

Hmm personally I really love the Wide pitch shift on 400s as well as effects, at half the price of 1000, oh and the jog wheel is really good too IMO... but yes it is only my opinion also

I m not a DJ, i bought two cdj200 and a crap mixer, this was my first contact with turntables, and i have nothin to say about the cdj200, works really well, it all depends of the person behind it.

I tend to use the vinyl mode for finding cue points because it's more intuitive for me. But the 400 has a lot of problems, I would much rather use an 800 or 1000

Among the problems:
- When playing MP3s off of USB, you are locked out of some of the pitch ranges, and master tempo is disabled.
- MP3s take a while to load (off of USB)
- The beat-based effects rely on auto-detecting BPM, so if it doesn't detect the BPM right, you can't use them.
- You can't do spinbacks, it'll run out of buffer and the sound will stop. People don't usually do spinbacks when mixing psy but I mix other genres of music so this comes up as a problem

i hope they update the 800's so i could also say they are great....
I just played with them last weekend and it really sucked donkeyballs. they should put a jog adjust on it....the feel of pitchbending is totally wrong for me, which doesn't mean other people would do well with these machines. for the rest they ain't better or worse then other pioneer decks

CDJ-200 are good ones.           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``

800s. Precise, excellent feel/control, durable. 1000s have a bunch of extra stuff that I don't feel are worth the increase in cost and even though I've used them, I'd never buy them. 200s are very sensitive and if you're using them at parties some djs can't live without the vinyl mode, which the 200s don't have. 200s are great to start on though.          http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

I'd say CDJ400 for its mid-range size/price or CDJ800 for its close to CDJ 1000 abilities.

I own CDJ100s and Numark Axis 4... a kindda like them both, these are some of the cheapest, and i think they are suitable for practicing. To some extend i like the cue'ing system from Numark better, but as Pioneer is the tradition, i changed to that.

Conclusion: Pioneer           www.parvati-records.com
