I'm not sure how other people do it, but I make sure that my sounds are separated into distinct frequency spectrums from the beginning, for example:

kick+bass: 37-250hz
lead1: 250-2000hz
lead2/fx: 2000-~5000hz
perc: ~3000hz and above

When there is sounds that have overlapping frequency spectrums for example an FX and the percussion I pan each of these away from each other, ie one with sound coming from the left speaker and the other from the right.

Then later on in the mixing stage i'll make cuts in the sounds with a parametric eq around the regions that overlap that cause the sounds to be heard individually.           My tracks:

from my experience, mixing is not a math problem, it does not has correct answer.
for some tracks i use very wide kick and bass, that means that almost every other part will "sit" on top of them but in the mix everything is sound good and separate.

perc - 3KHZ and above???
you are way way far from the truth my friend...
this way youll get too sharp. noisy & "hurting" sound
percussions start to "pronounce" from 250hz!!!

b.t.w, 20hz-250hz is the area of the bass but that doesn't mean you need to cut frequencies above 250hz... dont be "shy" to even boost the kick at areas like 2KHz, 10KHZ etc..

if music was all about mathematics, stephen hawking would have some banging tunes out wouldn't he?
and einstein would have invented the 303 LOL

Whoever invented it was some kind of genius, however unintentional!           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

one rule is that no one use exact same instruments/samples/quantity/quality so no ideas can be discussed without samples

i like to make my kick sound in certain way but can make it from diffrent 10 samples with eq but diffrent eq obviously

I think he meant something like "there are as many ways of making things sound good as there are producers; you can take 10 different kickdrum samples and with the appropriate EQ make them all sound the same".           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
