This is the usual excuse but it's not valid for one reason. The extend of copying and trading has multiplied a million times since then. Yes people copied music but they still had to buy the music in the first place and usually copying was within a very small circle of friends. Today they dont have to buy anything as it only takes one person to distribute it to one million people in a blink of an eye. It's here the big difference is found!

it is not valid also for another reason. listening only to free music is like having the free possibility to satisfy yourself with thousends of different free sexual acts. you would most probably not take even one of them. choosing the sound you like is comparable to the process of choosing your personal satisfaction, searching, hunting it, giving something for it, deserving it, winning it. the moment of being the one who pocess it is very important. if it is all free, you will not have even two percent of the longed satisfaction.
distributing free music in high quality is certainly a great noble goal and deserves respect. and it is rational to do so, because it is at least ten years since we all have access to music in shady platforms " for free". and any homo rationalicus used those. so it is better to make it at least as -unshady as possible and centralise it around normative regulations.
but at the end of the day, if this distribution model is not a subect of further development ( like for example paid model for abonemments, distribution packages for other markets like film industry, club industry, event management) it will be at the end questanable , if it follows business ethics. which is nothing personal, just ending the thought.
the main problem of psy trance is anyway the fact that people should work much more together, and thus create much more wonderful things. not as a monopoly in the hands of only one person. monopoly has never been good in history of humanity.

NOw, you cant combat technology, you can try to hold it, but at the end the underlying economic principles of technology will win and there is very little to be done.
The best way is to adapt and innovate, imagine if tomorrow a critical natural resource dissapered and all humanity started crying like the music labels we will be damned to extintion.
But in reality we will adapt and those who dont will die, as simply as that.
The labels vs digital downloads seems like the inquisition forbidding the printing press.

the greatest sex, very similarly to the greatest music, is achieved only then, if you have gone the hardest path to have it. paying for sex is quite cheap too. but reaching the stars and going to the end of the universe and back just to have this one single moment, garantees the quality of the experience. which is similar to searching music too. whatever. take care for your distributor problems yourselves.

In my experience, and against my own protestant-work-ethic-western-moral upbringing it has been a great surprise that the greatest of things can occur with seemingly absolutely no or little effort at all. Zen reminds me of this all the time.
For example this forum has introduced me to music/artists that I didn't know before, and now appreciate, and required very little effort from me to find or discover.
That isn't to say that there isn't something in the act of striving, and work towards some goal or similar, but all things in their place, and none above another*.

yeah, everything is extremely subjective. millions of people out there, everyone with his own taste.
i will not go further into psychology of desire right now, because it is useless;). these are things that marketing managers love to hear but as we are in a small dying market like you call it, it doesnt make sense. but anyway it is a common phenomenon that people usually desire what they cant have so easy. especially if they can have a lot os things too easy.
which is not applyable on cds anyway, because they are a product to be reproduced thousands of times and stay the same. object of sexual desire is not.
but it is applyable on live acs though. music is free since a long time. but live acts not.
p.s. i am not masochistic at all. not even far away slightly
