Its fair enough that people still buy CDs, they are into the physical copy, artwork...etc.
But CDs are on their way out and not just in the trance scene.
Look at Pop/Hip-Hop music, the genre that shifts the most units (think its surpassed Country as well by now?).
An awful lot of people download music and an awful lot of them are doing it illegally.

CDs will soon follow vinyl's course, i.e. it was the main medium people used at some point, but then it became a "novelty" of sorts. The demand and trends of people, simply changed.
Good or bad, is besides the point, the fact is that things changed and there is no stopping that.

Peace out.

since when do business ethics depend on how big is a market? just to remind you, business ethics consist of mostly normative rules. an example for that is the fixed pricing ( a good example is the fixed pricing on selling books in some european markets).

now tell me how many times did we read in isratrance about artists trying to go to court for the fuckin business ethics in the scene. how many of them did ever do this?

conclusion. it is not about the market and how big it is. it is about the washed out scene that simply cannot think rationally.

Psytrance is a small market doing business across international borders for small amounts of money with virtually no oversight. This is exactly the sort of conditions that give rise to shady business practices. No one sues because the cost of litigation will almost always exceed possible gains by a large margin. There is nothing irrational about this. You can't draw blood from a stone! All that can be done is public vilification... hence the "High Court of Isratrance"

Sorry to burst the bubble here but no one buy any rights just because the music ends up on Beatport. The usual and most used deal with a digital distributor is that they get some percentage of the sale (which is fair) and you keep the copyright as an artist. No one buy the rights from you. You allow your music to be sold on a shop and that is it.

Thanks for clearing it up, I read some digital distributor´s terms of agreement and i thought it said that they had the rights to distribute the music as they wish. or something like that. Maybe i misread. Will take another look

I blame ektoplazm, giving away all that high-quality-class music for free.... Bah totally destroyed whatever attempts we had to screw the listening public out of their hard earned cash... Bastards all of them, especially you reading this....

What its funny about this is that in other scenes distributors are the ones with more problems since Beatport deals with must labels directly.

Beatport is maybe a monopoly, because of their very large market share.

But Psytrance labels and artist have been lacking the will to go digital.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

no, it IS very irrational that nobody sues and fights for normative regulations.
1. it is certainly not like that in any country, but some countries provide legal aid for people with low income ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_aid ). and although it is rarely for business ethics issues, it can be certainly taken into consideration for artists who felt fucked ( it is a different kind of abuse). it means you go to court without paying anything. actually, if only one fucked person who is a citizen of such a welfare nation goes to court with that one, he saved 30 of his friends without that possibility to pay nothing. .

2. if 20 people have been fucked, and they make a small "psytrancy antitrust" ( please dont correct me about choosing definitions which dont exist), then the possible gains will exceed far away the costs.

3. i would do it, if i were involved and if i felt fucked.

4. the isratrance high court is one of the most funny and pathetic ever. nobody with at least minimal human iq would ever take it seriously. see goa gil threads. it makes you wanna sick to even be registered here. it is like i or anyone with a head on the shoulders would take it seriously that you write in isratrance i would not know what is a magnet and what is quantum physics. you could go a bit further than that, but it would never happen if you restrict yourself to the isratrance high court.

5. the market is not so small. it follows any rational expectation for market dynamics that is valid for any other market. it means, that if i go to court and i wanna see exact prove about all transactions that a distributor ever made, on paper and digitally, and all transactions and payments and costs about printing cds, and any legal transactions, then i have in court my first prove that something is retarded. especially digital sales are not as difficult to follow.
