Distributors, a monopolio that most end!

The market is too small to support the kind of competition that might results in more ethical business practices among distributors. Psytrance has been plagued by this problem since the very early days--think back to Flying UK, MDMA, Cosmophilia, and so on. As long as psytrance music has been sold there have been distributor scandals, quality labels going bankrupt, talented artists leaving the scene, and listeners losing out in so many ways. It's a damn shame, but what can you do? Get involved, I suppose. That's what I did

another topic to supply a fabulous laugh with the afternoon coffee!

since when do business ethics depend on how big is a market? just to remind you, business ethics consist of mostly normative rules. an example for that is the fixed pricing ( a good example is the fixed pricing on selling books in some european markets).

for instance, if someone starts to organise parties in goa and give 1000 dollar to the police for doing that, and the competitors cannot afford that, the market will be ruined very soon. he becomes the monopolist, which gives him the opportunity to sell very few things very expensive ( he will not supply the needed demand but rather supply very few products for very high prices). this eventually turns the customers off and the market will eventually die.
works pretty well in the other direction. if someone starts to supply the market with free products, the market is eventually ruined. because the basic normative rule is violated. certain markets have therefore fixed pricing, or make attempts to regulate the market with competition laws. this works pretty well in markets with rare products, ( if a " big market" is defined with the number of customers, then here i talk about small markets of rare products).

as we are supposed to be homo oeconomicus, which is homo rationalicus ), we are supposed to have the goal to achive the possibly greatest amount of products, things we can use for ourselves, (i.e. things that help us grow in a predator universe which is the basics of big bang physics). so we are supposed to be interested in a world economy that gives us this opportunity. this is why homo rationalicus are interested in the economic efficiency of the world they live in and are supposed to fight for normative rules and business ethics. this means they are supposed to fight for their rights. no matter how big is the market.

now tell me how many times did we read in isratrance about artists trying to go to court for the fuckin business ethics in the scene. how many of them did ever do this?

conclusion. it is not about the market and how big it is. it is about the washed out scene that simply cannot think rationally. because if you did, you would not leave any monopolists fuck with you. unless you are monopolist yourself and like to fuck.

I think you misunderstood me, i meant where there is a market there will be people that will try and trick others. Lots of greed and its in fact not unethical to delude people, as its normative in todays marketing strategies. This world is not a little village where everybody gains from doing good and making solid creations. In the old days you most likely got killed if you sold a bad product. As this is not most likely today, there is a open road for conmans.

But also some people dont read "terms of agreement" and other legal maters, And then they jump to conclusions and say they been tricked, But in fact they tricked them selfs.

I much more like the free concept and small amounts of fees. The problem is that most tools for creative work is overpriced and the market is over saturated, lots cause the idea that you need to sell 500 copies, yes of course you need to do that if you spend the amount of money which needs 500 copies to get back. But do they calculate that they will sell 500 copies, No, Cause most wont. And you cant really know as it depends on so many things.

There must be cheaper ways to print CD´s
in which way you can make 50 copies, Sell them for 10 euro and that would pay for the CD print, cover art and a little fee for creativity and tools used.

But i have no clue, but i do think there should be.

What i think steals money is those who buy the rights to get the music to beatport, spotify and such, they are in collusion.

Why would anyone want to give up all their rights for distribution? I think its crazy and it also hinders the free market. This is why its a bless we have Ektoplazm.

Artists are sometimes too horny in releasing a CD, There is sometimes no reality check at all.
I think free music is where its at, And this might mean more expensive party going, more expensive concerts...

Sorry to burst the bubble here but no one buy any rights just because the music ends up on Beatport. The usual and most used deal with a digital distributor is that they get some percentage of the sale (which is fair) and you keep the copyright as an artist. No one buy the rights from you. You allow your music to be sold on a shop and that is it.           www.beatagency.dk
