No, just solo the bassline identify the notes where the ringing occurs and sort it out.

you know, after sitting some hours infront of the speakers i hear much ringing going on^^
so i cant really say if i just hear that freqs, or if its really a problem. this happened to me with a open HH too. it sounded nice to me, but after hearing it a few hours i heard some freqs screaming. i was wondering myself if i cut out this freqs its not that characteristic anymore and sounds lifeless...

i tried notching my bass, but most of the time new ringings appear when cutting out one. so i thought of better do not touch this^^           www.soundcloud.com/orgytime

Very narrow and deep notches will get rid of the problematic ringing, but it might induce new ringing around the notch frequency, sometimes you have to get into surgical EQing that will help, but also sometimes a bit broader range and less dip will work best. I do both.
And try different EQ plug ins. For example, Logic's linear Phase EQ introduces a lot more ringing that the good ol' Channel EQ.

maybe it s bullshit but what i noticed for bassline over 300/400 hz you can go with broader range cause the harmonics are so close with one band you can fix many problems and it will probably sound cleaner and more natural than using lot of notchs, but in the low notchs will work better

It always depends on the synth I am using and the way I programmed my bass patches, some need more EQing than others.

How can you have "low end distortion"? I was under the impression that the nature of distortion was such that it spread across all frequencies...

Can someone give me an example of what "low end distortion" sounds like?

@pom
you should be right, the more deep the freqs are the broader the cut should be, because the occurrence of the oktaves are rising exponentially from 0hz to infinity hz.

@shiranui
you are right, distortion comes over the whole spectrum, but the deeps are the cause/reason for it (in this case).

cheers

yes it s logical but it depends the synths and the track everytime a new storie.. but for notching if your room is not that great you could very easily don t notch the good freqs,happen to me now i do that with my headphone

hey guys!

last month, a friend of mine played my track at a party. well it was totally distorted!
(the track was mastered by colin!)

Which track was it (artist name/title), and when did I master it? Could have been a mix issue or I could just have being having an off day.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

the mixing levels are similar to the soundcloud track.

so if the problem is not the mixing, it just can be the dj, right?

cheers

What I would guess (and I don't know shit so it's probably a BS guess) is that your bass is strong in some specific frequency that causes the imperfections in the subwoofer to be very obvious

again, i think it was the dj, who overpowered the bassoutput. psy have maybe stronger bass than other genres, thats why it was to much and why it distorted.

but who knows...           www.soundcloud.com/orgytime

Shame about the thread title, makes it look like you think I distorted the bass in your track and you want to tell everyone!           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering
