Distortion with other speakers (low end) mastered by colin

hey guys!
last month, a friend of mine played my track at a party. well it was totally distorted!
(the track was mastered by colin!)
the other tracks (radio tracks) sounded ok.
later i played my track at a 5.1 system, and it was also distorted... i checked the settings and the subwoofer was the problem here, when i turned down the sub for -6db! it was ok. im talking of tracks like you can find in my signature.
do i have to much bass?

The track in your sig. sounds good through my monitors. The bass seems well balanced. Schwarzwald promo is the track that you are referencing to am I correct? |

no, the distortion is constant when kick or bass is played. not at special parts.

Make sure you have a talk with him. He's more than up for talking about his masters. He's mastered both of our albums and we had no distortion.

nono, no offence to colin.
just wanted to say that he knows about bass for sure and its not the track whats fucked up.
thats why im wondering why the sound was so distorted when my friend played the track at the party.
my only idea is, that he used an EQ and boosted the lows too much. maybe this worked with other kind of music, but not with psy...
just wanted to know if you got similar experience or any advice.

you would clearly hear low end distortion on good heapdphone, better than on monitors in my experience .if it distort in the low i doubt it s eq, it s more limiting and compression .or maybe it s the dj on the desk that boost too much the low or volume? but i doubt it s at mastering |

haven t listened this sample on my monitors but the one before was a bit bass light to me, i dont think it s the problem, maybe post the mastered one so we can check if it distort (btw if it distort in the mix i think the mastering engeeiner can t do much about it) |

Yes the one on the soundcloud clip, does not distort at all, yet its light on the bottom end and robs the tune from some drive.
P.S. there is some serious ringing in the low mids as well. can't really say if its the kick or the bass. get a sharp notch and boost it all the way up, sweep down and around the 110 to 220hz, I think its somewhere in there.
Once you find it, notch it out.

so if the problem is not the mixing, it just can be the dj, right?

I can't hear any distortion on the bottom end on that myspace clip, still the bass is outta control, you'd have to get into detailed EQing on the bassline alone to sort it out, but if the final mix is all you had, that kind of EQing, would mess up your kick as well.
