hello ppl ,
i will like to start a discussion on methods of distorting samples or instruments to make them "kick ass" in a professional way...
the way i personally go about it is this:
i use the d16 kombinat to duplicate the source tracks to be distorted, then let it distorted tracks rule the higher frequencies, and the regular ones rule the lower ones, with a crossover at about 2k...?
any other ides/suggestions are welcome!

I use Izotope Trash as my distortion plugin for beefing up my kicks and bass. The "blues drive" distortion algorithm is a good starting place and you can apply different algorithms to different bands. Plus there are pre and post filters to help shape the sound.
I just generally try different types and wet/dry amounts on different sets of frequencies until it pounds without sounding too different in character.
On the other hand some settings can completely change the sound of the bass and I've gotten some really interesting results because of it.
I don't really have defined way of doing it, but something good always seems to come out of it after a bit.

Any tips on using iZotope trash to beef up kicks would be much appreciated. I don't have a very delicate hand when it comes to my trash use, and I tend to destroy my sounds
