distortion plug in ?

Hi guys any recommendations for a good distortion plug in (preferably free)...this is mostly for the bass ..i used to use fruity distortion (native plug in for fl studio)but somehow i feel it just doesnt have that punch or feel for the mid frequencies ...

You can try the vsts that already mentioned and also you can give a try to this one:

Now if you search specific for something free try Quadrafuzz as Hydropanic said, we use it a lot for our basses and works great for us...but its a matter of taste i guess!

ohmicide is real nice, as someone said, but it does mess with your dynamics savagely. try other ohm force products.
camel audio stuff and quadrafuzz would be great second choices.

If you turn the 'mix' knob down, you can add just as much of the distortion as you want.
