What do you mean by distant?
If i understand you properly i imagine some reverb and making it quieter than normal would probably work, but im not really sure what exactly you mean by distant.
Example?

distant..distance far..hmm u could put on some fx like reverb and the tail of the kick will become longer but it gets a bit behind as without the fx.For lonnnng kick you could give a longer release hehe but that it probably not what you are looking for if you dont want to swim in muddy frequencies.
Give a go on the look for all the mothers here around.Topics bout kick and eq could be helpful.

he's sidechaining the bass with the kick, but setting the settings of the sidechain so that the kick is inaudible.
Turn the kick volume all the way down. Then use prefader send. |

Nice track Groovy
You could probably find a similar kick in vengeance essential clubsounds...
like Obelizk says the kick and bass is side chained..
try http://www.db-audioware.com/sidechaincompressor.htm
generally you use volume to make sounds come forward or backward in the sound picture, other option is reverb or Eq, take away the lowend and it will sound more distant, take away the highend and it will sound more upfront...
best is often to start with volume adjustment.
Reverb dont always sound so good on kicks, but like everything that depends, if you want the bass and kick combo to have more room you can try some slight reverb on the bass....

Distance = LP filter + low volume
As you tweak the filter up to higher fqncies and turn the kick's volume up it will feel like gettin closer. |

I just noticed that i wrote totally opposite of what i meant...
"take away the lowend and it will sound more distant, take away the highend and it will sound more upfront"
_____________________
this should be correct
take away the highend and it will sound more distant, take away the lowend and it will sound more upfront
Sorry

Roll off the top and turn down volume, you can use the same reverb but automate the pre delay. More pre-delay will make it sound closer. |
