Spectra party NYC 4/28 was awesome! Shane Gobi's set was spectacular. Kife played, in my opinion one of his best sets I have seen. Optical delusion's visuals were definately something I would like to see more of...... but the friggin blinky lights made me dizzy. Why are club lighting systems called "intelligent"? I like the "stupid" lights you know the ones you just plug in and they stay purple all night. What ever happened to them? any way spectra still rocks and I my head is still reeling.

and it was sooooooooooooo hot in there!!
was sweating like a piggy...
it was a bit uncomfy..but the music made up for it all.

i prefer "stupid" lights too  unless we're outside in which case fire light is my favorite. as for hyperactive lighting/lasers, thoughtful arrangement is much appreciated. above the crowd please, not in the eyes

You'll find lights and lazers like that at club-music venues and at raves. I think it's meant to be disorienting on top of the music and crowded dancefloor. After going to trance parties for a while, I can't take the lights anymore. I think that's while you'll find people wearing shades in an already darkened room. |

I really think that lights can be used well at trance parties...
Anyone remember the I AM parties in hollywood
How about Green Sector's indoor with Tron.
I could list of a bunch.
Really DMX has nothing to do with the lights being annoying. In most cases you can blame either the promoter, deco person or of course the lighting person for wanting it like that.
All DMX does is control the MIDI coming and going from all the lights.
I love lasers, soft soothing lighting and just about any other lighting tool that is used WELL.
And yes Karo, no lasers in the eyes that is a NO-NO. Operators of lasers should also have permits to use them if they intend on scanning the crowd at all.
Also a NO-NO, strobe lights. They should just stop selling those all together unless its Halloween or something. |
