Hello all!
Searching on forum I read about Hard Disks setup...but, don´t find a solution for me...

On my old system, I have 2 partitions...both with the system (windows)...C: for Sequencer, VSTs, and Audio data...and D: for Work and Fund...with internet, msn, photoshop..etc...

This make a clean system for work with audio production...disabling many services of windows and keeping that just with audio tools...

Now I have a new system with a 400gb SATA2 HardDisk...and have a old 160gb IDE drive...I read here that is more fast use just one partition to all programs and system...and other for audio data...but my system loads many thins like Wireless internet drivers, windows services, printer spooler, and other programs...But I have sure that a clean system loading just what the sequencer needs to work...leave my system too much faster..
The only point is the data access...
What is the best setup?

Considering that i need install many softwares and services...

I think the best is mantain my old setup...
using 2 partitions, one for all I need...and other just for audio production..both with the system...booting on start...

I´m wrong?

Thanks and sorry a bad english!

Speed-wise there is not much to gain by having several partitions.
If the disk is fragmented it can help because the cache is not too spread on on the disk, but if you defrag it regularly that will not be an issue.

The advantage can be that if you keep the OS on separate you can format that partition without loosing your audio and projects.

The main thing like you say is to keep your audio on a separate disc, at least if your RAM is not sufficient and windows will utilize the disk cache.

Probably what I would do with your config if you like to have a dual boot is to split the 160Gb into two partitions and use those for your DAW and general use installs, and then use the 400Gb for your data.
