Hello Fellow Psyheadz,
After each and evry single party i see our Audio Guru's on the forum cribbin about the sound... not a single patry can be spared. My question and its a general question to all Psyheads is what audio system do you listen to at home. Please specify your gear that you live your Psy exxperince at home with.
Also ... Anybody listening to psy on a pure 5.1 system... (Computer speakers do not qualify expect for the Logitech and Creative highend systems might be given some grace). I talking about listening to Psy on a Yamaha, Harmon and Kardon, NAD or a Denon amp supporting 5.1 upmix as all psy that i have come across is in Stereo. Anybody with a Pro amp shud try some Prologic modes and check some dark tracks "Although i'm not a Dark guy " for the effects panning from the fronts and rear speakers. I was amazed.
My Rig :
Room area : 10 x 9 Feet with Split Bamboo damping on the walls.
1. Yamaha RX-V550 driving : 135 Watts x 6
2. 4 X 150 Watt Satellites
3. 1 Center x 150 Watts : 2 x 5" Full range drivers and a Silk Dome tweeter
4. 1 X Active 10" Sub running at 175 watts : Dual rear ported
5. 3 Channel mixer which i use with Traktor 3
6. A SoundStrom Discreet 7.1 soundprocessor ... I intend to buy a Turtle Beach soon ;-) .. Finance is the problem...
I would love to know what my fellow Psyheads blast at home.
Cheers,
Nikhil Pereira aka CyberBaba |

Not much to brag about my setup: computer to play CDs and MP3s -> M-Audio Delta 44 soundcard (soon Echo Layla 3G) -> Access Virus C -> midrange-deficient (rectified with EQ in WinAmp) Sennheiser HD200 headphones.
I couldn't really use speakers because I share a student flat with 2 other people - who are not tranceheads.
I like the intimacy and detachment from surroundings that headphones create. |

Just built a new studio in my attic room, will post link with pics soon.
Pentium 2.8Ghz 1GB Ram
10,000 rpm HD + 3 7200rpm HD's
RME HSDP 9632 Sound card
Two Screens (monitors)
Dynaudio BM5 passives w/ Phonic Max 250 amp
MB Quart 120w HiFi Speakers w Yamaha AX 570 Hi-Fi Amp used for reference
Samson C control to control the sound
Juno 106, Nordlead Rack II, MicroKorg,
TC powercore w/ Virus
+ collection Softsynths and plugins
Work in Cubase sx3, and mastering in Wavelab 5
Best thing about new studio is my neighbor isnt bothered by sound anymore (at least i think so, my doorbell is broken so who knows).
Am using sound insolation material to minimize reflection of sound from some walls, and tried to make setup as symetrical as possible.

an armstrong amp 200watt,
2 custom built jim rogers passive speakers x60watt,
reloop 2850s dual cdplayer,
behringer djx700 mixer
in a room 3x4(metres) and can say its good enough for its job!
for producing its some crappy 2.1 creative system-soon planning to change it-on a pc 2ghz,256ram,emu1212m-some changes here also!

Umm cytopia, this thread wasn't about production equipment but listening equipment. |

On the other hand music through loudspeakers, especially ambient music, has a kind of spaciousness and size that headphones can't create and that I like very much. |

For this reason, I think this thread would get much more response if it was in the "Trance" section no? Many ppl who don´t make music never come to this section...That doesn´t mean they haven´t got massive soundsystems Maybe someone could change it?

That's true. But did he want to know what type of equipment producers use for listening music? |

i use my fostex pm-1 monitors (active) to listen and connect a little portable radio/cd-player to it via a behringer mixer. that's it my pc is connected, too. and i have some little pc-speakers connected to the mixer. they are in the kitchen.
