How can you comment on the sound quality (coz thats what the comparison should be about - we all know that discovery can make similar sounds to the nord) when listening a .wmv with bad sound anyway...

i have a nord 2. i did a comparison of my own once. built the exact same presets on both nord and discovery...... anyone care to guess the outcome?
the nord blew the disco away..... there is no comparison. not by a long shot.
of course you can use plug ins to augment the disco and improve it but still . unproccesed the nord just sound fatter bigger and better.
if u dig deep enough u just might reach the sky...

Yup
I think the video makes it obvious that the nord blows discovery away. Sobering.
The thing is that discovery has the usual tinny soft synth sound (at least I think so), so hardware just blows away soft synths.
There may be exceptions in reaktor and a handful of others. but .... |

yes i did the comparaison with the nord 2 and they don t sound the same ,the discovery is lifeless,sterile...if it was hardware no one ll buy it,like most software ,but you still can make some good sound with them. |

I saw the video some weeks ago. I agree. I cant believe the guy is sitting there and saying they saound pretty much the same! Even with the crap audio quality from the video you can tell that the discovery totally sucks compared to the nordlead. :/ |

He's being diplomatic , coz gearheadz is a respected internet mag.
"different" is just a euphemism for shite. But thats usually true in all facets of life. |

I couldn't believe the difference in sound when I first saw this. The discovery had this noise spittle on the high end of it and the filters just didn't have that sorta digital stepping that the nords had.
I wonder what the bit depth and sample rate were set to on the sound card and if it was on 2x oversampling on the discovery? |

technically yes but its not being run through a computer that is intended to check email, play chess, and write documents etc. therefore they can focus more on the sound quality

it has nothing to do with converters or processing power.
someone has to write the software, Clavia has better programmers, end of story. |

Hardware has its own DSP's thats why creamware and powercore stuff sound so amazing. But in a strict way yeah both are softsynths.

Both soft synths, but different quality products. I dont doubt discovery could sound as good if it was seriously intended.
But its not. illusions gone |
