Hello !

I go to Psytrance events since july 2012. I didn't like the music at first. But...

Now I use Ableton to mix hitech in parties (I was producing tracks before, not Trance, more Autechre-ish and experimental stuff, noise music, harsh noise etc) and it's exciting as hell. So I want to produce tracks now ; I began a few sound design and track projects, I'm happy with it.

But I have a few questions, since it's a little bit tricky to get these classic and typical hitech sounds I listen to in most of productions I mix (Oxi Daksi, Amras, Sick Noise are the most representative artists of the scene I'm into).

For example : https://soundcloud.com/amras/amras-killa-drilla-f-r-e-e-d-o

The sound at 1"06. These sounds are one of the hundred reasons I'm into hitech after beginning my musical journey by playing trombone and drums in jazz bands a long time ago.

Organic and living synthesis. I experiment a lot, I have really organic stuff but I'm still far away from those sounds. Ideas ?

Another question : it's funny because there is a sort of neo-tracker culture in hitech. I don't find info about it, but a lot of hitech of Osom music or Kamino recs or Lunatic Alien recs sound like these are made with a tracker like Renoise, because all the step-stutter/pitching/stretching/**ing thing is native in these softs. And I remember a friend of mine, which is in Psytrance culture since early-90s (in Montréal/Québec at this time), who gave me a lot of tracker files and, even if he's on Cubase and Ableton now, remember happily his first tracks and say "ow, I should reinstall Renoise".

So I was just wondering (added to the "typical sounds" question) if I should just go on with Ableton or learn more about Renoise to do all the hitech mashing stuff. I know Ableton more since my first version was 4, but Renoise seems wayyy faster (speaking producing routines).

Anyway, glad to discover a new community.

Cheers !

First of all, wellcome! This place has been my first and main school for ~4 years now. all I can say - great choice .

There are a lot of people who can help your regarding your sound design questions. My cents here are: stick with your software or plugin that you feel you are most creative/productive with. It's only for now, you will evolve and require a different tool, or you'll just face some circumstances in your creative life that will require you to switch from one tool to another, but the main trick is they all share more or less the same principles, the are all capable to produce 'pro' sounding tunes, it is only for the artist to decide if one is better than another.

regarding 'typical sounds' - it is great to know how to produce them - learning is neverendless, but imho one should stick to himself, his experience and his formulas of sound design - it is a world that knows no boundaries, so why limit yourself?

Anyways good luck, happy learning and productive production

Hey I just spent a day and a night on my prefered synth, I found how to do the sounds I wanted to do.

My first main school about production is another board about idm for seven years, and before it was just me, my tracks and my friends. I'm happy to discover a new school, like you said, learning is neverendless. I began music production sixteen years ago, and this is evolving with my life, thru it, now I'm 26 and I always discover new things, like Hitech, discovered in front of a super clean wall of sound near a little french forest, with the sun rising.

Like "what does he do, what's this fakking sound and why am dancing like hell ?". Nice.

Thanks for you words, I'll explore this board deeper

Welcome aboard! And please, don't hesitate on asking and answering, you can't believe how much you can bring into this scene coming from somewhere else - the simplest thing can go a million miles

nice! How did you do it? What did you come up with?

What I do believe is that you will never stop learning (as long as you keep your mind open and not stubborn), and at least for me it a never ending quest for bigger, better, faster and stronger, as I really can't find anything that is perfect (some one once said, art is never finished, only abandoned).

Yeah psy trance tends to do that with people, But don't stay with a singe sub-genre, in a festival there is space and time for everyone, and just like you have different emotions and states of mind during the day, a party must evolve (however the definition of how it should evolve will diverge from person to person).

So keep it up, keep producing and doing what you think sounds good and right, blow out minds in the process, and if kindly please, do share your knowledge with the community           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz

Yup. I understand, party after party, when's the time for dark, when's the time for morning, for progressive, I didn't realize before why a psytrance party is as beautiful as it is. Thousand things to say.

I should make a zip with Ableton Operator presets

Perfect ? Hum. I like to think of a perfect track. But more in the way of the number theory.

"In number theory, a perfect number is a positive integer that is equal to the sum of its proper positive divisors".

In music, a perfect track is equal to all the emotions, feelings, all the time and money you put into it. Nothing more. I don't like the word "perfect" when it means something else than that. It motivates the competition, the "more", the "better", and other value judgements.

A perfect track is nothing else than you, making music.
