for some reason - the good people at m-audio decided that if the spacebar is pressed on the mixer - the levels go up to maximum... as you can imagine - i have nearly destroyed my monitors and ears several times by not making 100% sure im inside cubase and not on the mixer....
any way to disable this dangerous function?           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

I dunno about that.... what are you using the fw 410 mixer for besides setting the intial volume to your system? I usually don't need to have my mixer channel open all the time. I just set it to the setting I need....           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

I infer from this that you're using active monitors straight out of the 410, and you're using the mixer on the 410 to control your monitoring levels...

I'd suggest a: reducing the volume on your monitors so that the maximum possible level is the loudest you ever want to use, and b: using an alternative volume control into your speakers - perhaps a small mixer like this: http://www.behringer.com/UB502/index.cfm?lang=ENG
It's £31 in the UK.

Alternatively if you're only using one set of outputs from SX into the 410 you can use the master fader in the SX mixer as your monitoring level control, and just set it to the right level when it comes to bouncing down a mix.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Yeah, very strange why would they do that...?
I guess people at m-audio like loud music at a touch of a button! Maybe if u write to them in the next update for this software they will fix this...

And i think it’s better to have a mixer between ur sound card and monitors

I miss this 'feature' on the mac 410 panel, but then I have other 'features' that the windos doesn't           "a new art came into my mind which only you can create, the Art of Noises, the logical consequence of your marvelous innovations." Russolo, 1913
