the funny thing about it is that the developer said it is theoretically not even possible because you cant decide with an algorythm which harmonics belong to which note...but practically this doesnt really metter it seems
but I see the biggest advantage here for non-electronic music styles, and there is the real revolution...now all talented musicians dont need to hold themselves from improvising great stuff just to play correctly all the time, and this will hopefully deliver some better music, but defenately save time & nerves of the engineer

Sure, the ability to analyse polyphonic material is quite impressive, but not astonishing and I'm not even sure he's first to do that.
The thing that boggles my mind is how he could possibly managed to modify individual harmonies in the audio with, what it sounds like from the demos, hardly any artefacts.

the theoretically impossible thing is to say which harmonics of a chord belong to which note, whats pretty important to analyze and change that chord...but practically he said it doesnt matter for the brain

huh?
Celemony has been on the cutting edge in this area for years, if anyone was going to figure out first it was them. The CLAM guys have figured this out to some degree but its totally unuseable and doesn't sound nearly as clean. Good luck finding anything other than that polyphonic pitch detetion is not possible beyond those 2.
Part of the reason it sounds so clean is that they pull formant information out too and adjust it accordingly.
One thing I'm sure it can do thats pretty crazy is snap audio to alternate scales besides 12 tet. You can also probly take a chord progression thats audio and generate a midi file of it. |

hey guys, i also was very impressed of a melodyne video and couldnt wait to get my fingers on it... so i downloaded melodyne about 2 months ago to test it out... it couldnt read a CLEAR LFO´ed saw melody.
and the timing gets fucked up in the mix if you change anything at the melody with it (i tried it with voices), and if you pitch it, it sounds crapie, same like an pitchwheel... i was amazed of the clear pitching 1 oktave voice in the vid i saw... but it sucked by testing it out
but! i just spended about 1hr, anyone got good results with it? and what did you do?
