ok.you are a dj.signed in a label.and you are palying in a party,promoting the label's music...but ppl dont dance..what do you do?

2nd:
the dj that spinned before you and the dj that spinned before him were both playing in the same motive...
and you had in mind to play in the same style...do you do it?(though the dancefloor has got tired of the 4 hour-same thing?)

i know it is a matter of the promoters to arrange the line up in a way that there will be some diversity, but some times you expect different things from a dj and he plays different stuff..

alla and all my question is this...playing for the crowd or playing for your self?

ahh and i got another question..why everybody(and i mean everybody)takes that"electro-turn" in their music?and if he does, why he still playing in trance parties?from what i see in the danceflloors people still want some fat bass and some groove to dance...and usually they are leaving from parties dissapointed(at least a big amount of the crowd)..

Mmmmm good question, been pondering about the same issue 4 a long time now... You should play what u like, if ppl dont like it 2 bad, try something different next time, but something u enjoy equally, its about showing ppl yer trip, yer way of xpression, i believe that its not as important 2 make ppl dance, but staying true 2 yerself, show them what u like, i think that if the only thing u focus on is making ppl dance u r a sellout Music is art, and djing its art, a lost art anyway, and art can be harsh, some ppl might like it, some other dont, its just about showing yer point of view, and yer way of xpression, yer feelings, emotions and thoughts           Memento Mori

Im going up to the stage and kicking the shit out of the dj cuz he plays boring music!

Well, its a hard thing to answer to. I believe if I start djing i will play my style, and if the crowd doesnt dance its their problem since I do "my" stuff and my approach to music.
If there is a period of 4 hours with the same music, then yo uhave a problem. But it can work, ive seen that myself.

Hmm, I want to believe I dont go to that electro turn, dont like that too much myself and trying to stay loyal to my trance roots.

i think djs have to be totally dedicated to the crowd

dj should know what kind of crowd he playing for....
and bring to them happyness as much as possible

the best dj is the one who has a little telepatic sense -
if you know what im talking about - that knows exactly what the crowd wants to be played!

cheers!

it s ok to play a track with some electo in the mid of a trance set, it creates a nice change.. but don't kill the dancefloor with it.

my experience is that the crowd would dance to everything. therefore i can't understand why there aren't more dj's playing different and experimental psychedelic stuff...most of the crowd doesn't know what they want anyway.

the sound that is popular at the moment came to popularity because of dj's and labels, it's not the crowd that stopped dancing to the music that was popular before.

you go to label hq and tell the label manager he releases crappy music OR you realize you're playing the wrong kind of music for the occasion

if you already see people leaving the dancefloor with disappointed looks on their faces it would be best not to repeat the motive of the previous dj. a problem arises if you're hired to play that kind of music.
then you just play as planed and try to find the right tracks to get people dancing or slowly shift to a different style.

for both but you might have to do a compromise by playing tracks people love and you can accept in your set.

to me, its most important to play a time-appropriate set. You don't want to play a fast madness set at 3pm, just like you wouldn't play a proggy set at midnight, outdoors. Indoors, prog and fullon sound good all night.

Also, its good to flow, if you play a South African style set after someone plays stuff like CPC, Kindzadza and that sort, it sounds off. But an SA set BEFORE the CPC & etc. set that sounds fine.

I play what I like, and what I like usually ends up being what everyone else likes. If you play music you really REALLY love, then Im sure at least some out there will love it too.

And who cares about the ones who don't?

And, +1 for what MॐZC4L1†0 said. We're not up there to play requests, or please the crowd. Well, some are, I guess.

But, just as was said in the other thread about flawless mixing, its all up to each dj to decide how they want to play for themselves! If they want to please the crowd thats their business. But a dj that ignores the previous style and just plays whatever, sticks out. And that can drive people off the dancefloor. Especially if they play Infected...           .

i think the music that you play and the people appreciating it is mutual...if it doesnt happen try something till you see the results....also, the whole ambience of the place where the party is being held also matters...analyse and act likewise...

peace...!

No... no more scientists, no more laboratories, no more experiments, I thought you`d be able to understand that. No more!
