Sorry if this question sounds dumb - but is it possible to make psytrance on programs like digital performer??? If no is it because it is midi based????

You can make MUSIC on a SEQUENCER. That's what it's programmed for. Psytrance is music....
of course it's possible
midi based? you are not afraid of midi I hope. psytrance is still made in midi alot.

Yes you can... I think Deedrah/Synthetic uses Digital Performer.. and I did too until I got a PC... but I am no where close to producing like him
