I've seen many artist playing with digital drums (such as yamaha dd-50) but I never hear a note coming out from it. I guess if they ever plugged them or not..

An example is Psysex, I can't understand what does he control, fx? You can see it in the video live in south africa "psysex - altered states remix".

I only saw S.U.N. Project playing with the digital drums but that was a full drumkit with a dedicated drummer...

I have an hardware electronic drum and I guessed I could use it for creating beats but I could not play the beats all the live act so what could I use it for? fx? how?           --

I have a Roland SPD-S going through a Lexicon MPX-1, through an Alesis 3630 to control the output on stage.
I mainly play percussion samples...congas, timbales..etc. Some high mid synthetic zaps/synth stabs, the odd 808 sustaining kick for the breakdowns, vox...anything really. The Lexicon has a tap delay so its easy to sync it to the decks. I have presets made up with a longish delay feedback and with the aid of the output gain on the Alesis, I have total control.
The SPD-S has got a headphone output so I get to audition everything before it goes to the P.A.
Its a nice drumpad sampler. The pads are big enough and can withstand hard drumsticks...its beer proof too!

And what's about connecting it to a pc sequencer like ableton? Does somebody knows how to set it up?

Anyway I won't use the real drum sounds since they aren't really good sounds but it's a great midi controller!           --

You can always use it to trigger samples from the PC. Just set up a few soft sampler patches with the desired samples and set them to respond to incoming midi data from your pad of choice.           Me>You

there are some artists that have break parts in some tracks with drums (sometimes solos)... as an example E-Jekt. would be nice to make that in a live act.

Saw psysex live in london middle last year - all he did was play the snare, and do a few drum rolls with a crash every now and then. did add a lot to the show though

not too sure how triggering anything besides percussion would go down though

All the times I have saw psysex I have not heard the sounds of the digital drum and I guessed he was playing some dalayed sounds but could not hear them.

So anybody knows how to set up the midi environment with Ableton?           --
