Anybody knows how it's a mp3-wav digital deal release with a label? I don't want specefic details but maybe someboday knows a general answer for it.

With a physical CD an artist get a full advance for a track but how is it with the digital releases?

It's by royalties or something like that? Maybe 50%-50% profit between the artists and the label of all the tracks they can sell by digital websites? Maybe a full advance as a physical CD?

Any information will be apreciatted!!!

50 views and no responses? All right... well, I am not in the heart of the industry, but I have heard a few things through the grape vine. Typically, 50/50 profit sharing is the deal (and, in rare cases, 60/40). I have not heard of any advance being made for a digital release. I suspect that the cost of mastering assumed by the label increases their initial risk, which might explain why an advance is not made. I think the important thing to look for is the scope of the distribution i.e. how many major shops will carry the release, and especially (for my interests at least) how many of those support lossless file formats.

There is a few different types of deals.

Sometimes it's a CD release that also get sold by the label to a download shop.
In those cases it's usually about 50% to the shop, then 50% of the remainder to the label, so in the end 25% for the artist.
With major labels and iTunes the deal can actually be much worse depending on the contract, and some artists get almost nothing for download sales and the label rakes in all the profit for almost no extra work on their behalf.
But with minor labels 25% to the artist seems pretty standard.

Then you have artists selling signing up them self to services like musicdock, or sites like cytopia.
Then the artist usually get about 60%, but have to get the mastering and promotion dealt with themself.

I guess my own project, resonantearth.com, falls in to the above category since I don't do very much promotion although I do select and master the any material I put on the site.
I also give 60%, although a bit less for FLAC since when I stared the project I thought that serving those would add to the cost a bit, but now hosting is cheap and I probably will lower the cost for lossless.

Advances is pretty much non-existent when it comes to digital releases AFAIK.
The volume is extremely small in this scene at least, and for digital only releases there simply is not enough money for that, and it's usually not really labels as such releasing it when it's digital only and rather service providers with a different business model.
But there is less risk of financial disaster since you don't have the high production costs and payments can pretty much be made as the tracks sell since there is no need to wait for shops and distributors to pay up.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

Hey thanks, well it sounds reasonable 50% - 50% but as you guys said, in some cases it depends of a lot of things and the label you will work with but at the end of the day could be a good work for both, artists & labels.
