Different mixing of a track for indoor party, outdoor party, home listening?

I've noticed that tracks tend to sound very different in these three environments. I was wondering if anyone had ever considered releasing different mixes of their tracks for different purposes?

For example, let's say the outdoor mix was the original version--lots of dynamic range, reverb, stereo delay, etcetera.

For the indoor mix, perhaps cut out most of the reverb because of the reverb of the room itself.

And then for the home listening mix, a bit more compression so that you can hear all the details of the track in your headphones without damaging your ears.

Or something like that, I don't know anything about mixing or mastering so if this is a really stupid idea please tell me so!

I think Shiranui makes sense. Actually I was about to write a similar thread here. I mean with mastering you can of course work with the dynamics but you cannot remove reverb or delay from a mix.

It sounds that it makes sense to do a very dry mix for venues that are very echoey or have bad acoustics.

Do artists do these things..?

I would also be interested if you have some good plugin for simulation acoustics of various environments (e.g. hall, valley, small room, etc..). I mean a very realistic and accurate reverb but where you can in addition set position of sound sources (speakers), position of listeners and you would get from your monitors the sound that the listener perceives from that position.

ok now a serious answer:

imho it's absolutely not worth the effort. make one good mix which will sound OK on all systems.

mixing different for indoor environment is in my opinion sensless, since all indoor environments are different and have different problems.

You could do a different mix for home listening. homelisteners won't hear it as loud as people on a party so keep the fletcher munson curves in mind and boost the lows a bit.           http://soundcloud.com/seamoon

It's really not worth the effort if all the parts are the same.
Personally, I tend to write the tune for the outdoors because that's where I prefer my tunes to be played at.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

This idea makes no sense because all of those environments will be different themselves. Not to mention that the equipment will be different and the sound systems will be different and the sound will be setup different too.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

The amount of knowledge to do this takes more time from the actual music making...

Better that indoor organizers choose a good place with good acoustics and not lots of rambling windows and lose stuff....

I say there is already alot to consider in production that is more important... but of course the though has crossed my mind... what you can do it a "laptop speaker mix" and one original....

cheers

I remember 90s eurodance cd singles that often had a 'radio mix' and a 'club mix' (probably the case with lots of mainstream dance/pop). I didn't know much about production at the time, but the club mix was of course longer, with a beat intro for the dj, but I would think the club mix also had more (sub)bass. Similar could be done for a home listening mix.

Radio mixes need a different aproach if i am correct because they get compressed to death before they get transmitted in the air. So you need to keep that in mind when doing a radio mix.. but i'd be surprised if any of us ever has to make one Psy sure ain't on the radio here...

hahaha well I mean the 'home listening mix' could be like the 'radio mix' in the sense of 'less (sub)bass'.
I've only heard psy on the radio when I was in Israel ten years ago
