What is so difficult about monitoring in mono through one speaker while you EQ?
I know you love your plugins dude but I think its a bit silly to say its easier. The whole point is about ear training and giving the the brain one less dimension of information to deal with so it can be focused better.
Don't need to spend money on plugins to do that |

my sound card has a mono button. And my monitors have power switches on the front. SO I just do it that way.
But you can just turn one speakers off or hard pan like you say. The only problem if is your sound already have stereo effects then a mono sum option is needed. Does your DAW not have that option? |

hehe what can i say! you see i have only a M-audio 24/96 for my stationary
and for my laptop i have nothing!
I been dreaming about a new soundcard for too long now, made priority in other things, like a new guitar(Alhambra 4p)
but next buy will be a soundcard, im aiming for M-audio Profire 610...
Does Pan come before or after insert effect..
considering that SX monobutton would sum it all, but if i pan in the cubase mixer and panning happens before summing it wont do the job? i can always pan on my outboard mixer... so summing will happen before panning

pan comes afterward so actually that wont work....maybe that plugin that jizy mentioned might be good.
There must be some freeware that can be strapped on the master channel for this.

This is during mix-down.
Think of EQ as the dimension top to bottom. Panning side to side. If you pan first then it is easier to get separation of you instruments but harder then to EQ them. If you EQ first through one speaker your mind will be forced to get everything sitting in its own vertical place. Then go back to stereo and work on panning. Your mix will be clearer for it.

You know, this makes a ton of sense. Definitely gonna try this. |

I think that it won't be accurate, due to different circular panning laws in different DAWs.
narrowing the width (or using a plugin) might be a better idea. |
