Hello everyone..

I was hoping someone could explain the difference between USB, Firewire, PCI, and DSP sound cards...I only know that PCI cards are installed on the motherboard of the pc.

Usb plugs in through the usb port, firewire plugs in through the firewire port- differences are in the latency of the signal (generally more with usb- not sure what it will be with usb 3.0 since that's 10x the speed of current 2.0 which is in most computers).

DSP is also installed on the motherboard.

This article and some ones after have more specific info: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/sound-card3.htm           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

There even are external DSP card..its basically just a chip inside that is able to work out some plugins you can use in your session.

look like tc-electronics konnect 24 or stuff like that..they process plugins on the external DSP Chip..
