hello,
i have watch out for new studiomonitors..
(till now, i only produced with passiv hifi-connection:(
and theres a good couple (EDIROL MA-20D)
but only has a chinch-linein.
someone told me that chinch will losing quality if i will connect them with my soundcard (klinke-out) trough a klink to chinch formation.
does anyone know how much quality is loosing? should i do that or leave that...?
and:
do you know if there is any way without a digitalmixer to formate klinkformat into S/PDIF optical - format?

it mostly depends on the quality of the convertor and on how new both cable and convertor are (because of oxidation and dust and fat from fingers)
also, better convertors are very tight so they make good contact.,
if you have everything new and good quality then the quality loss will be much less than the connection to your soundcard and to your mixer!.,
but it's always better to have good quality cables without convertors.,.,
about spdif, there are specialized boxes but they are usually expensive.,

about klinke/chinch...why a converter ?! -there are such cables available...or u can do one by yourself ( or give a request to a store...) quality loss: i don t know why/where...
spdifboxes...as zildoggo said expensive ( 150 teuro ) and i heard bad stuff about it...
