it started with more precussions more sounds
more like wordless music almost jazzzy
today you we can still find a few of these old style trance check with the danish and the finish.
check out tracks like gumaflo by procs
it has the essense of the old style
today music has progressed in every genre
house music is all beats
progressive house
hard house
chow mow house
totally bad house
is it your house
whose house it it
this is what led to
more psychedelic house
ie. astrix, beat hackers etc
then there is trance for the masses
spun style or should i say naked parties in ibiza style
and then there is more psychedeilic style trance too
shift, absolum, cpu, hux flux etc
but if its goose bumbs if its the original made killer, if its the next revolution in trance
kindzadza, fungus funk, terminator, Digital Talk, Midipin Powers, Azax Syndrome, G O Wrath, some scatterbrain, Psychotic Micro, Jahbo and Insane Boy, Kluster, OOOk, Outolinto, TVS, THe Crow\\\\, Parahulu, even a guy called Boogieman, kasol, sienes, spindrift, Penta, Ocelot, Gregh on earth, Quasar, N3xu5, Javax, Triple T, Jelly headz,
Xenomorph in categories of his own
so yes trance has progressed or
has many styles of its own
thank god otherwise all djs would be playing the same music
and only the mix would matter
explore, open your mind, let the music in, let it take you on a trip, enjoy your trips everywhere
Seek Knowledge not just happiness*****

I'll give a simple division.
Goa is about the free flowing vibe, loads of melodies, high energy and ignoring the concepts of other electronic music genres. Good examples of the leading goa acts: Green Nuns of the Revolution, Doof, The Infinity Project, Prana, MWNN, Astral Projection and MFG.
Psytrance is more about creating a trip via sound, not necessarily via melodies, when in 1995 Hallucinogen released Twisted, it was the first album to truely differentiate psytrance from goa (while tracks like Shamanix and Snarling Black Mabel where definately goa, LSD was pure psytrance). The best examples for this style are Hallucinogen (the first big act to keep the 303 out of his studio), Process, Prometheus, Union Jack, Psychopod, and Eat Static.
Both these sounds have become more or less extinct since the invention of full-on, but thankfully, a few still remain that make these.

Goa is the music which actually started in Goa. This music evolved, and as it evolved, the name changed to psy-trance.
"Psy-trance" is supposed to be more psychedelic but this is just the continuation of the same vibe.
Basically, the two terms are referring to the same style, and unless you want to play too technical you can use one or the other.
At least, this is my understanding...

Infinity project doesn't exist anymore. its now known as TIP World. and distinguishing the difference between goa and psytrance is somethin you have to figure out on ur own. by hearing songs and knowing what makes it a great goa track or a great psytrance track |

hehe, what a pile of artists...most of them are starring in the underground. [i guess they got their own reasons why staying there]
but anyway...
Psychedelic trance\Goa...Whats the difference ?
i think the true difference is in the massages and concepts that avery genre [sub-genre]
stands for...
ex: psychedelic trance - f*uck up everybody's brain !!! kick it in the ass !!!
[IMO ofcourse]
• Goa - more melodies, more old-school sound [pure-old goa], its more tribalistic.
IMO its all in the concept itself.
but, we cant just come up with a definition for - psytrance.
its more complicated then that,
psychedelic = spiritualistic, mental, neural, sense of awareness...and the awarness of the senses. its about expression of your thoughs in electronic music...and psychedelic it will be to each other of us in its own way.
just enjoy it as it is...be open minded.

imo : psychedelic trance encompasses / includes goa trance and other forms of trance including minimal, progressive , the parasense /fungus funk/freaking type trance(which kiss ass btw) and yet to be discovered forms of trance .
almost any form of trance that can be considered new and innovative would be called psychedelic trance?
psychedelic trance is perhaps an evolution of trance .? |

Yap!
I agree with others who said same..
My personal opinion is that psytrance is like goa, but without clear melodies..
Many people talk about psytrance nowadays is not so melodic. But thats the point..! Goa is melodic psytrance. And goa is the first one. I mean psytrance is kind of goa's "underinfluence". |

The Infinity Project was NOT only a label, but also an act that made some really awesome goa tracks (released not only on TIP records but also on Phonokol and Dragonfly for instance). Green Nuns, Prana and MFG don't exist anymore either. Psychopod don't exist any more, now it's Saiko Pod which is only one of the Koxbox duo, not both.
Anyways - back to the subject, you can definately hear the difference between the two. They have different forms of energy to them, once you hear some goa and some psytrance, you can immediately tell which is which.

I think goanna's comment is the closest...
Psytrance is the term used to describe all forms of psychedelic trance. Goa is a part of Psytrance. as well as full-on, dark psy, minimal, psytek, morning, chill, and so forth...
I thought this was common knowledge? |

i would say goa trance was/is less bass and percussion driven, more overlapping, inter twining melodies and 303s. and i love it

The difference between Psychedelic and Goa Trance is really negligible, and if you ask anyone involved they'll readily say that there is no difference, much the same way that junglists will say there is no difference between Jungle and Drum n Bass (even though there is). To put it succinctly, Psychedelic Trance removes the hindu/middle-eastern influences and melodies and full-on blasts you with mindfuck music...teleport zappers, star trek tweeps, nintendo twerps, theremin squeels, feedback hums and radio antennae frequency squelches. Well...Goa might have all that stuff too. Hmmmm. Let's say this instead: Goa is more organic, and Psy is more cybernetic. But they're both futuristic sci-fi music. Okay, fine: they are the same damn thing. |
