but you got other simon posford projects like:
The Gargoyles, Nomads of Dub, Binah (i think its simon?) Younger brother... and a few more (i meant, a whole load more )
but you also got Shulman, which new album: In search of a meaningful moment, is just a blast of a voyage.           Love is Life

to be honest, this thread pisses me off.. this is a chillout/ambient forum isn't it? i would pick a bluetech or androcell or solar fields or... A TONS of albums before a shpongle album. simon is kick ass at what he does.. but he can't even get close to what i would like to hear.

Did someone beat Xerxes to it yet? Nope.
I totally agree about music being "non beatable". It's art, thus it's in the ear of the belistener (heh).
Shpongle is great music but have I listened to it during the past weeks? Nope. There was other music that I came back to much more often. Does that make this other stuff "better"? Or Shpongle "worse"? Nope.

And I must say I really hate people who are religiously shouting "OMG SPHONGLE IS THE AWESOMEST!" on every occasion. They make me want to listen to something else.           http://enjoys.it

What I like about the idea of "beating Shpongle", as I mentioned previous page, is that I admire the vision and the way everything is put together so much, that I would love to be able to do that and 'better' somehow. But I agree it's not about competition and no one but Raja and Simon can really do what defines Shpongle.

Also, funny enough, my own heart lies more with sounds mentioned multiple times above too, like CBL and such, or at least that's what I listen to way more often and I can have the same feeling about "beating" it there too, but this all is of course within personal vision of what you're trying to do 'better' than said project.

Hmm, I wonder if that made any sense. I might have to cut down on the coffee for now.           http://www.embarrassed.nl

yeah The Infnity Project it did it waaaaaaaayyyyyyy before Shpongle (tho similar producers) and I'd say that the likes of Shulman, Bluetech, Ott, Entheogenic, Androcell and Padmasana have taken those ideas and done it much better...

actually for th elast 3 years Shpongle has never been playedin my chill out sets... it's just isn;t up with latests tribal ambient around...

I agree completely, I havent listened in years to Shpongle, I think he is the least important of them all in the moment.

Just a question.
Just by any chance...did any of you ever listen to Boards of Canada, Brian Eno, The Alan Parson Project, Deadbeat, Greg Hunter or Monolake???

yep.....i agree with justin!

i have full discography of Boards of Canada!

the funny thing is many of shopngle tracks is not original music........many drums loops from sample cd's
many woodwind melodic compositions from sample cd's........and other acoustic instruments!
most vocals from cample cd's
some melodies is remakes of folk/world music

but still.........its one of the greatest electronic projects of all time!

shpongle always appealed to a broader audience.
but music must challenge your brain to keep being psychoactive... so, you must ask yourself.. does shpongle still get me high?
shpongle nowadays sound so predictable and natural, that most people are imune to it. as psychedelic as trance, i must say...

on the other hand, there is evolution.. and luckily several artists keep providing new paths for demanding brainz. wich one is better? let the situation tell ya...
