If this question could translate to
'Did Pink Floyd introduce more people to psychedelic sounds than GoaGil,Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection, Hallucinogen and Juno Reactor put together ?'
Yeah .... I definitely think so. Rock was psychedelic long before trance. |

Techno has been around since the mid 80s, trance has since the late 80s (not counting when we all danced with shamen to the drum under the full moon 20 000 years ago blah blah). Psy trance in its current form - arguably since the mid 90s, whereas psychedelic rock has been around since the mid 60s... |

Surely psychedelic rock lead to psy trance because it was invented earlier than trance. |

Early pioneers of the psy-rock genre which ushered the wonderful era of psy-electronica...thus trance...
'GONG'...from which 777 came about, and inspired Ozric Tenticles, thus Eat Static
'ASHRA TEMPLE'...who included Klaus Shultz, pioneer of electronic music
'Harmonia'...Brian Eno's muse that led to the ambient excursians...
and of course Tangerine Dream, circa 1974ish..
In my opinion, without these early 'rock' acts, we would not know psy-trance as we do.

depends on how you look at it... Shamans have put people in trance since i dont know when... with percussion and other instruments...
so i wouldnt say psychedelic rock is our only ancestor..
but its for sure close related, with the heavy use of FX and so on.... but there are lots of more sounds in the nature that can be very strange and psychedelic... and that sound real electric

Yeah, tribal drumming is probably where it all started. I was out in the hills and the batteries for the portable speakers died...right when we were peaking. All I did was pick up 2 sticks and beat them to a tribal rythm.... you could feel the trance in the sound. The feeling you get when the state of trance takes over you.
But if you talk about psychedelic sounds, IMO its very different. Beats send you into trance... psychedelic sounds control the trance for you. In that respect, I'd say it probably stemmed from sufi music and hindustani classical. Rock took that element over with the Beatles and those that came later. And then there was Goa. |
