Hello! when i read some interviews or the biografy of professional psytrance artists, almost always i run across the fact that smboby else helped them and showed them the "secrets" of psytrance sound..
I was wondering, did anyone ever manage to archive pro sound by himself?? Is it all a matter of politics and public relation??

Depends what you mean by making it. If making it means releaseing records that reached the #1 spots in Mixmag, DJmag and getting plays on top dance radio shows like BBC Radio 1, getting plays in the Essential mix and playing out in front of 15000 people, then I made it and I did it alone.           Me>You

Making it means to compare ur tune to a released track that u like and have a similar clarity and punch..i bet there are hundreds of tunes that got played on the radio or in front of 1000's of people but got that privilege due to it's creators contacts/pr and don't really sound that good..

I'll let you in on another secret. Some people claim things on the internet they have done without giving any prove which results in other people not believing those claims. I'm not saying you're lying, but just saying "I've been number one on... and I've played for 15.000 people" isn't really useful/trustworthy at all. So who are you? Moby?

Anyway: I'm sure some people get away with it, probably the most inventive of them all. I don't think FSOL or Aphex Twin checked forums every day to see if their eq'ing was any good... For me: I've learned part of it myself on a mc-505 & microkorg before I got interested in searching the internet & producing on pc (again). And it went soooo slow. I think kids these days are lucky they can start of with a massive loads of tips, programs, vsti's and all for free (or warez, not too naieve). Thus a lot of copycats will arise but I'm sure it wil result in more talent rising up thanks to this evolution.

yeah.. i started alone too, only recently found out how helpfull foruns and mailling lists can be (out of curiosity, i was banging on a mc 505 too... if i were on the foruns i would probably have bought something better for psy... at that time for the same money i could have bought a jp8000)

now, i think no one ever learns everything alone. We learn by reading, talking and listening...

that's not to say that you have to have someone to show you how it's done. say kidnap the guy from deedrah or 14 year old e-tard and lock him in your studio (heheheh... just joking ) but i know some people who did and their sound improved greatly

i think that many people have "done it" alone...and alone is maybe the best way to learn better!
but imo its very useful if you have someone to show you the out..
to do a thing there are 10 different ways, one who knows will show you the easier one to have your result!

you can learn anything on your own-football,maths,computers,anything-but to have a teacher is the fastest and probably safest way!

everybody whose intelligent enough to understand the concepts is good enough to make music (that means, everybody who is not mentally handicapped). Most people just don't have all the necessary skills to make a finished song. Then it's essential to find someone (or a group) who complements your skills. Try to learn from him/her/them if possible... But probably he/she/they will always be better at those things then you so coöperation is the best choice. It's rare that someone has all the necessary skills to make a finished song. And ofcourse, if you have someone who can explain you the ropes you'll learn much faster

i developed my own sound by myself.

If you dont work and work and work on it no matter how many secrets you have most likely you wont make it. Its about determination and will. For sure talent helps but still if you dont work it..its the same as not having any.

I caught that. Another tidbit: Sarcasm and humor exist in strange corners of the internet.
