Reading topics here I find many times words that I only understand from context, and sometimes I keep wondering what they mean,so:

1)Stab-what is that?

2)Pad-I know what it is,but why it is called such?

3)Drone-?

4)Fuzzy-?

1) Stab - a quick, short burst of sound.

2) Pad - various definitions...I tend to think of a pad as some sort of atmosphere or texture in the background of the track, or a kind of longish evolving sound. IDK why its called a Pad. Pads are often chorded.

3) Drone - a long sound that just sort of...drones. Hum an 'OMMMMM' to yourself for a while...that's an example of a drone.

4) Fuzzy - describing sound with words sucks. Sharp, warm, fuzzy, sticky, buzzy etc. No advice there            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

A stab is usually a chorded (multiple key) short splash of sound. Which will most likely show up at 2.4 and 4.4 in the sequencer

I never really thought of the WHY when it comes to pad but you made me do it. Have to get back to you on that one.

A drone is usually a long evolving sound with bass'ish nature.

Fuzzy is equivalent to crispy/distorted as wills posted.

Well if we're in this wavelink, what does "oneshot" samples mean?

a oneshot sample is one that is used once

so for instance, a lot of producers will spend time making a whole bunch of crazy noises, then bounce them down to audio cut them up and then trigger them seperately as 'oneshots'

as opposed to taking a sound and triggering it a bunch of times in a pattern etc etc            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe
