Say I have some sampled melodies and I'd like to know what key they're in to pitch-shift accordingly to what I'm working with, is there any function in Cubase or some kind of VST that can do this, or is either musical ears or trial and error? |

you can use melodyne..its pretty simple...just import the file in the project..double click on it..and on the left it shows you the key..in cubasejust rihtclick the sample...then go to audio and statistik..but actualy i think melodyne is more accurate..
good luck!

In cubase:
if you right click on the audio file and go in to audio: there's a function called statistics... that will give you all types of data on the sound including overall key.

I use Akai Pitchright,
it's a pretty accurate chromatic tuner...
It colors the sound...
be sure not to leave it on when you've figured out your pitch!!!
